but I really have changed how I eat. Today I was really hungry and it was a choice of a wall of chocolate staring me in the face or a can of almonds tucked away near the chocolate and the almonds WON! I really feel great that it didn't bother me in the least to walk by all the chocolate. I didn't think that was ever going to happen. Has anyone else have a happy story?

  • i wanted a really healthy lunch, but all i could find in the freezer was pizza meals, etc. and i really wanted vegetables so i just took an entire bag of calilower and broccoli and steamed that and had it for lunch with salt and pepper. im stuffed now and the entire 3.5 serving bag was only 105 calories!

Hi Fat Dancer, glad to hear you lost weight, but don't you just love losing the inches more? I do. The back will take a couple of months. That and the bus door that keeps freezing up on me isn't helping. But I'm maintaining!

Blueberrybox, I've done that before when I wanted a change from salad. Salad and I are mainstay companions lately though. With Basalmic Vinagrette. Yum. Nice to meet you.

My idea of a treat or splurge has changed dramatically. Last weekend I had the house to myself (heaven!) while my son and husband were on a camping trip. Saturday night I decided to rent some movies and "pig out".

I had 4 oz of steak (grilled, no sauce), grilled asparagus, half a baked potato with low fat sour cream and fresh chives. Later on in the evening I had a serving of Golden Spoon ( the best) frozen yogurt with a few almonds on top ( 63 calories per serving!). It was very decadent!

In the 'old "days it would have been a 12 - 16 oz steak , maybe an artichoke ( complete with butter AND mayo) full baked potato with the works and probably bread. Desert could have been anything and everything.

My, how things have changed ( for the better  )

    Hey, kj!

I'm finding it easier to skip that kind of stuff, but at the same time, I was getting cravings I never had pre-diet for sugary junk food. Based on some postings, I found I was taking in too little fat. I didn't make a connection between the two, but when I increased my fat intake (what a juggling act with the nutrients, eh?), I found my cravings went away. Probably it was the fats in the ice cream sundae's I was after, not the sugar.

Anyway, I seem to have successfully evolved into a 'natural' diet. It was hard work and deprivation to get here, but now my stomache has definitly shrunk and it's much less effort or consideration behind what and how much I am about to eat.

Not that lots of exercise isn't great, but that was another area where I needed to change it to something I could manage forever. So, I'm down to about 20 minutes per day of actual routines. I'm picking up a lot more activity because it's warming up and I'm outside or in the workshop more adn more. I might have to boost the exercise routines again when winter rolls back around.

It's really all about quantity. One can post all the science they can Google, but simply eating less works best imo. If anyone asked me today for one piece of advice, I'd say: Get the plate you usually eat dinner from. Now go get a plate smaller than that and never use the first one again. (Rocket Science!!)

Hi Raz!!! Long time no see, How are you? Your post sounds like your doing great!. I never did get the strength training going. Managed to whack my back and now will be starting from scratch. But yeah back to the subject, I don't crave alot of things anymore. and my splurges are much better for me now than 7 months ago. The biggest splurges are in the bread category because I know my weaknesses and bread is one of them. Nice to see ya again.

Hi Denmother, Where are you based? I haven't seen any frozen yogurt called Golden Spoon in Vermont. Sounds good, see now you made me want it:bigsmile:

we've been doing "biggest loser" competitions for over a year off and on at work... i've lost a total of 40 pounds thus far over the past year (still 15 - 25 to go)... i just can't seem to lose the belly fat though... but i heard it was first added last lost... and since my chubbyness started with my belly years ago... i'm afraid that is going to be the last to go...

but i'm amazed at my appetite changes regardless of how much lost!

i can't even eat fried foods without getting ill... my body is just so used to the healthy, lean foods... of course i still love my cookies (it's girl scout season) but i'm able to have maybe 1 or 2 a day as my dessert and then i'm good...

I love this site it has taught me to eat better and in turn my kids and my fiance reap the benefits. I am looking at my 25 lb lost on the scale today (I don't record until I see it for 3 days) and can't believe it could be this easy. I never understood portions or how I was able to gain weight sooo fast but it took forever to lose. My choices when I go out to eat are radically different but still taste good. I thought that when I was going on a diet my life was doomed forever to only salads. Now I realize I can eat most anything in moderation and don't even think of this as a diet. I wish someone taught me this 15 years ago instead of just telling me what the food groups are. This site is really going to change my life and my kids lives and I have only been on here since December. Thanks again myfitnesspal(Mike). Congrats to everyone who is doing this. -Heather-

Just today I had a little experience. I ordered lunch (a restaurant. . .the decadence!) and when the waitress brought it out I thought "that portion is too small". (just a knee jerk, reflexive thought).

I ate it slowly, tasted every delicious bite, and discovered that when it was almost gone, I was full. I put down my fork, left those last few bites on the plate and walked home satisfied.

It was awesome! I feel like my body knows where "enough" is now.:flowerforyou:

I love chocolates from Lillie Belle Farms. I got some from hubby for Valentine's Day. It's not very big anyway, but I ate no more than one piece each day I wanted one and I just ate the last one last night. What is that, like a month. OMG. I didn't even think of that. I shared one piece with my daughter and one with hubby. Not only did I never want more than one, but some nights I never wanted any. I just had one on the nights I really wanted something and I LOVED them more than ever this time around. I'm actually finding it very easy to pass up chocolate in any form. My real weakness is chips and salsa. :grumble:
