Anyone up for 10,000 steps per day challenge for this month?

It's easy to join - Just post here to begin!

You will need a step counter to keep track of your steps and then post your results daily here.

It's ok if you miss a few days or if you do not make the daily 10,000 step goal. I only had 9 days last month that I made it over 10,000. You can set a lower or higher goal if you wish. Our main goal is to keep activate every day!

  • I'm up for that, does jogging count as steps? Was that a really silly question, I've never used a step counter so I'm not really sure. I love walking and with it starting to get icy I can still get out walking even if it's not as easy to jog. Do I need a good pedometre or will a cheap and simple one work well?

You can choose to count whatever steps you want. I put my step counter on in the morning when I get dressed and take off just before bed so I count everything!

I have a fairly simple step counter that I have had for years but rarely used until I did a step challenge here a few months ago. You can get an inexpesive one and test it around the house. I sometimes check mine and its within a few steps in a hundred.

The one thing I would be careful about is how easily it can be reset. Mine had a large button on the bottom that I would hit and accidently reset it several times a day. I was able able to remove the big plastic button on the outside and now need a pen to push the tiny button that was inside it. Now it only gets reset when I want it to be reset.
  • I would love to join in! I think I'll set a goal of 10,000 for the first week and see how it goes cause as a college student I walk EVERYwhere so if I make it over 10,000 during the first week I'll up it to 11,000 or something.

    Sounds great!

Living in the suburbs means there are few places I can walk to.
  • Still waiting on my pedometre so I hope its here tomorrow and I don't have to start late. Are you setting this up as a group?

I'm going to have to modify the challenge a little. Now that I'm finally over my 3 weeks of bronchitis I'm starting to walk again. However, after consulting with my OB and Perinatologist it looks like for the rest of the pregnancy (2 more months!) I'll be sticking to just 30 minutes of cardio a day (down from 1 hour before). That 30 minutes is going to knock about 3500 steps/day off my totals so I probably won't be able to hit 10,000 like I was going for last month but I'll still try to pad my totals where I can though with little things like taking the long route to the office bathroom, parking far away etc. I'm going to aim for at least 7500 steps/day.

    Glad you are feeling better.

I always try to make every short trip have extra steps by taking the long way too. I hope no one is tracking the routes I take :)

We have not had a group in the past. I think this is easier to just have as topic that we all post too.

My old step counter is no longer working properly. It was counting less than half of the steps I was taking. I had been thinking of a new one for a while anyway and the New Balance ons is much smaller!

Here it is 12/12 and I just saw this post on my home page. Don't know why it showed up today, but I would like to do it. I have had a step pedometer for a couple of months now and use it fairly often. But now I will use it everyday, except on Saturdays, which is the Sabbath. Thanks for making this challenge. Are you planning on doing it past December?

I would also like to add that the pedometer I have is an Omron that came from Walgreen's. It simply counts steps, not distance, cals. etc. No setting anything, just put it on your hip and....step!!!
