Hello there fellow retail workers -
I've been trying to pack a lunch most days, but some days I'm running late and/or forget...and have no choice but to grab something in the mall. I know to avoid the obvious - A&W etc. But what about Tim Hortons, Sushi, subway, arbys? Maybe even starbs?
All input is appreciated!

Hi,
I don't work in retail but am out and about with my job a lot, when I am struggling to bring something I usually go to Subway. The calories are displayed so you know exactly what you are eating. I usually go for one of the low fat subs without cheese and they are under 300 calories.
Good luck.

Sushi is suprisingly high calories, salt and carbs though.... I always get suprised when I have it!
Is there a supermarket in your mall?
I usually aim for either Subway, or healthy choice menu from mcdonalds or if I get a burger or something, I'll get chicken, no sauce and then not eat the bun.
I also keep flavoured cous cous packets in my handbag, just add water and you have yourself a meal! plus they barely take up space so can keep a few for back up0 -
I am a university student and when I go to the cafeteria I usually go for a tuna roll (usually average about 184 CALORIES/2 grams FAT/27 grams CARBS/24 grams PROTEIN) with either a Kappa Maki (cucumber roll: averages about 136 CALORIES/0 grams FAT/30 grams CARBS/6 grams PROTEIN) OR Sunomono Salad (usually averages 46 Calories)
Tuna roll, sunomono salad and green tea = 230 Calories and 25 grams of protein.. pretty decent if you ask me and fills me up nicely.
Tuna roll, cucumber roll and green tea = 320 Calories and 30 grams of protein.. I am always satisfied after this.0 -
In most malls here in New Zealand we have Chinese Food - buffet type where you can choose 2 or 3 choices - most is not very good options - but in both malls that I go to often they actually have either steamed vegetables, chicken and vegetables and black bean beef and vegetables ......that is pretty OK options to have occasionally ....... If you do want some carbs ask them for a little bit of white rice (not fried rice or noodles!!)....
Other than that sushi (light on the soya sauce) or subway - they have the nutritional info for all their products on their website..... The other option that I have seen in a few places in Aussie is Nando's chicken - make sure to remove skins etc....They have an Espetada that is a good option0 -
Do you have healthy options in your malls there? We have sumo salad, wrap away & other healthy alternatives. If you don't have any of these options go for Subway - have the wrap or their salads.0

One thing I found helpful is to download an app to my iPhone that has calories for fast food restaurants. It's not the healthiest choice of food to eat, but with the app you can choose as sensibly as possible and still log your calories when you're in a pinch.
I searched 'Fast food calories' and went with the free app by nanobitsoftware.com. They've got a Pro- version as well for $.99. I might give that a try. The free version has six pages of restaurant stats.
Edit- I have to admit though, I am partial to Subway as well!0 -
Look up all of their websites. Look at the nutritional info for everyone. They all have healthy options0
