I have these chocolate starlight mints that I keep just about every where. When I think I am hungry I try sucking on those or some other hard candy for a while. Seems to help me. However, I also am open to a better idea :-)0

I find apple cider vinegar really curbs food cravings. You can either take it as a supplement, or (if you can stomach it) have a spoonful with your meals. Lemon juice does the same. It's the acidity.
I've been taking KLB6 for years, which has cider vinegar in it, and I always find that my cravings for snacks come back when I stop taking them (but maybe that's just me...)0 -
This is a bit bizarre, but I take 2 Sudafed every morning for congestion. It has a secondary gain - it suppresses my appetite. I can tell a huge difference when I don't need to take it.0

Healthy food supresses the appetite for unhealthy food. Try lean protein and plenty of salad and veg.0

Sugar free chewing gum works for me. And a pint of water.0

I have to agree with the sugar free gum and water idea. For me, I always feel better when I'm chewing on something rather than sucking on it. It gives me the false assumption that I'm eating something and always makes me feel better. Also, if you drink a 20 oz glass of water, statistically it should curb your appetite in about ten minutes.0

I usually have an 8 oz glass of milk, don't know why but it works for me.0
-
I drink water, plenty of water! I go through an average of 8 20oz bottles a day which seems to keep me on track. If I am at home and drink little water, I find myself snacking more often.0

I eat 3 square meals a day. In between if I get hungry, I eat an apple. Apples are cheap, good for you, and curb appetite. I also fill up my exercise bottle of water, and carry it with me the entire day (refilling as needed). Alot of times when I am "hungry", I am really thirsty.
It is "ok" if I am a little hungry before bedtime and before my meal. If I feel a pinch hungry, it means that I'm losing weight at a pound or two a week. Even if I go to bed a tiny bit hungry, I wake up and am not hungry. But, I force myself to eat a 300 calorie breakfast, a 400 calorie lunch, and a 500 calorie dinner - and go to the gym for 40 minutes on a treadmill.0 -
Exercise...you won't eat whilst your workout and as blood is being redirected MOSTLY to major muscles involved in the activity, it naturally slows down your digestion a wee bit yet physically will help with digestion from the mechanical movement of your body in exercise! Sweating will make you thirsty or at least should make you think you should drink, so you fill up on water too... x0

Ridiculously UNSAFE idea... Never use medications for anything other than they were intended and at the correct dosage... STAY SAFE!0 -
i drink hot tea, especially at work. it doesn't always help, but every once in a while it satisfies me enough so that i forget about eating till its time for my next meal.0

Very high protien and high fiber will curb your appetite.0

I would say drink water. I did an unofficial study at work with some of my co workers (Soldiers), and the conclusion was that if you drank more water through out the day that you would, one not feel as hungry, and two would lose more weight that if you had a small snack. That's just my thought on that. I hope it helps.0

I have to agree with the others that suggest protein, veggies and water. I will also chew gum occasionally when I have the desire for something sweet. I do notice that if I keep my carbs low it great reduces those cravings.0

Sudafed are similar to amphetamines, which make you lose your appetite. They are also addictive so maybe not a great idea to take them every morning.

Raw foods high in protien and fibers. You'll get all the nutrients and will be full and clean. :-D
Thanks for sharing!

lots of water!0

If you are craving something particular, it could mean that you have a nutritional need. For example, if you crave salt, it's usually a sign of adrenal fatigue. I know I saw a table at one point that said, if you want x then you are likely deficient in y, but I cannot find it now Knew I should have saved that thing! Try poking around and see if there's something missing from your diet. Otherwise, if you don't need the calories, get yourself as far away from the refrigerator as possible.0

This is a good thread. Normally, I drink water, but I'm also going to try the apple and hot tea.0

Cinnamon. Researchers have found that cinnamon may also triple the effectiveness of the natural insulin your body makes. Cinnamon itself has insulin-like activity....a bioactive component that is believed to have the potential to prevent or overcome diabetes. So put it in your food.
Apples - I consider this the best fruit to use as a snack. Each apple packs 5 grams of fiber while having the fat-fighting chemical pectin in it. 3 a day and you'll be happy!!

Eating good meals and snacks on a regular basis. I normally only feel hunger when it's time to eat. If it's not time for a meal or snack, I chalk it up to wanting to eat for emotional reasons (sadness, boredom), and talk myself out of it.0

If you're like me, I'm constantly thinking about my next meal and my next snack.
Even if I'm ridiculously full, I'm thinking of something sweet. So filling up on water as suggested is not going to work for me.
That and drinking tonnes of water at once is dangerous. Please don't forget that.
So the best way to suppress my appetite is to keep myself busy. I work at home so I'm always ranging the cupboards… but if I have a small breakfast and go out (to non-food shops, or to gym, or for a walk) then there's no temptation anywhere in sight and my mind is distracted. I then find I come home and it's usually 15 minutes until lunch time, stopping me from snacking in between meals.
I've also found that the more sugar I have the more I want. I've been on MFP since start of October slowly reducing the sugary things I eat. Now I'm not as tempted when I see a chocolate bar. It took a lot of time though, and I totally understand dieting is really hard especially when there are so many nice things on offer.0 -
You should "budget" your calories for something you enjoy. I am not going to spend the rest of my life not having a treat in the evening, such as a glass of wine or a small bowl of ice cream. If my treat is 150 calories, and my calorie goal is 1600, then I'm going to shoot for 1450 and then enjoy the treat. So, if I know I want a bowl of ice cream before bed, and I know I've planned for it, it makes it easier to pass up temptations throughout the day.
Also, for the sweet stuff, I find that a small portion is usually enough to satisfy the craving.
As other people mentioned, be sure to get enough fluids. The feeling of mild dehydration can be confused with hunger.0 -
I feel I must warn you about Sudafed. Plagued with respiratory allergies for many years, I took Sudafed every day. One day my nose started to bleed and I couldn't stop it. Long story short, Sudafed had raised my blood pressure to dangerous levels and I've been taking b/p meds to keep it under control ever since. Please do check with your doctor before you continue your daily use of Sudafed or other decongestants.0

I think we all go through phases. I had two Thanksgiving dinners and ate quit naughty before that. I started noticing I was exercising less and my clothes were fitting snugger. So that scared me. Starting last week, I got up early every day. (Believe me I am not a morning person at all.) But I am actually enjoying it! Exercise in the morning seem to take away my cravings and the fatty food doesn't taste quit as good as it did. I just hope I can keep this change up. I do have late evenings taking my son to activities.0
