I feel like its impossible to lose weight the way I am going. What am I doing wrong? Im eating 1200 cals a day, but even with added cals from working out I sometimes get shaky/dizzy. Should i increase my cals? But im worried if I do, I wont lose weight? When I went away to university 4 years ago I was 136 lbs (5'7) and I gained about 11 lbs, and finally (as of today!!) after a lot of hard work, I am back to 136. I know this is a 'healthy' weight but I have a bit of a belly and some cellulite that I want goneee. I do circuit & 30 mins of cardio 3 times a week, its really all I have time for because Im just starting a new job (teacher) and its very demanding. But Is this enough??? What can I do different?

I feel the same way. I feel like the number on the scale wont budge... even if I start to feel skinnier in my clothes. Hmmm. I think maybe its because muscle weighs more than fat so if you're working out and gaining muscle you could still be losing fat but not losing weight? Thats my story and I'm sticking to it lol0

You should make your diary viewable if you want good responses0

I can't see your diary.
But I had the same problem and had to up my calories. It's the only way I could go without headaches and dizziness.
How is your protein and iron?0 -
Hello, well done on your weightloss! IMHO if you feel shaky you are not eating enough! I am 5' 6" and eating 1420 at the moment and still losing. I have set my activity level to active as I am busy all day looking after my children, walking, cooking, housework etc and I said I want to lose 1lb a week. I only add calories I've burnt according to my heart rate monitor and I eat most of them back. Try upping your calories, I think your body will thank you. Good luck0

What are you eating for those 1200 calories?
If I eat "junk" that's how I end up feeling, maybe that's your problem. Impossible to say without being able to see your diary.0 -

Change your goal to like "maintain current weight", then when the exercise cals are taken off just don't eat them back so that would be your deficit. If you're dizzy, you do need to eat more.0 -
I haven't been faithfully logging my food, so no good to open my diary really. I do probably eat too much 'junk'. I end up eating granola bars and snack foods while Im at work (which are 100+ calories each) because I often have meetings at lunch and I do not have time to sit down and eat a real meal. Like, today for breakfast I had a grilled cheese sandwich on whole grain bread, with ketchup & choc milk and dinner/supper I had a roast beef (real beef) sandwich, vegetables, couple french fries and stuffing. And all I have left is 130 cals. I usually take a N.O explode shake before I work out, maybe that causes the dizziness.0

Like a lot of people here, I think you may be eating too few calories. I have 13 pounds to go to reach my goal weight, similar to your weight loss goal. I've been stuck at the same weight for at least 3 weeks. At this point, I know I'm overtraining and undereating. I actually thought yesterday that I didn't want to work out because I didn't want to eat more. Strange, but true. Anyway, I've decided to try a new method which increases my calories per day described here. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/408674-the-olivia-method-the-cool-new-way-to-set-up-your-mfp-go The problem is MFP sets net minimum calories at 1200. For women close to their weight loss goals, this may not result in much weight loss. The Olivia Method increases your calories and allows you to determine your weight loss deficit each day. Check it out. It seems like it works for some. Don't give up.0

I also think that 1200, even with exercise calories, is too little.
If you're a teacher, you're probably on your feet all day, so you're not sedentary. Make sure your activity level is accurate.
Since you hardly have any weight to lose, be sure to set your goals to 0.5# a week. When you have too much of a calorie deficit, you end up losing a disproportionate amount of muscle mass along with the fat you want to lose. And that's why you end up reaching your goal weight, but not being satisfied with the results.
Eat more food, make sure you're getting at least 20-25% of your calories from protein (you'll need to customize your goals), and look into strength training to help retain as much of your lean body mass as possible. Alternately, switch to maintain your weight and look into strength training.0 -
thank you for the replies !!0

I agree...you should up your calories. Look for healthy snacks you can take to your lunch meetings. Try some light snacks between meals (100-150 calories), like yogurt, fruit, veggies, etc.
Keep in mind, at 5'7" and 136 pounds, that may be your ideal weight. You can help things along as far as shaping up by doing lots of strength training, but the scale may not budge any further. I'm only 5'4", and my goal weight is 135. Try reading "New Rules of Lifting for Women". I'm reading it now and plan to try to start the workouts once I get the all-clear to start exercising again after gallbladder surgery.
It sounds like you don't really need to lose any more actual pounds, but maybe instead focus on strength training to tighten everything up.
Good luck!0
