I loooveeee Cascadian Farm's Organic granola cereal :) It's a little "pricey" for the calories and amount you get, but it's amazingly good.

As far as being filling, I would say Kashi Go Lean....but am I the only one who breaks teeth eating it? It's so tough on my teeth. I don't really care for the taste, but its ok with fruit added in.

    I go with oatmeal usually.

    Ingredients
RICE, WHEAT GLUTEN, SUGAR, DEFATTED WHEAT GERM, SALT, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, DRIED WHEY, MALT FLAVORING, CALCIUM CASEINATE, ASCORBIC ACID (VITAMIN C), ALPHA TOCOPHEROL ACETATE (VITAMIN E), REDUCED IRON, NIACINAMIDE, PYRIDOXINE HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B6), RIBOFLAVIN (VITAMIN B2), THIAMIN HYDROCHLORIDE (VITAMIN B1), VITAMIN A PALMITATE, FOLIC ACID AND VITAMIN B12
WOW I didn't realize all the extra crap in Special K. :grumble: It's probably the dried whey that's adding the protein, as opposed to something you'd think was similar like rice krispies. I think I'll stick to Mom's Best & Kashi cereals... And Cream of Wheat.

And yes, the protein settings on here are kinda low.

    Nom nom nom KASHI GOLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    not crunch, the regular kind.
It's DELICIOUS, it has 13g of protein and 10g of fiber per cup. One cup is 140 calories.
I mean, it doesn't taste like lucky charms, but it's lightly sweetened, and with some fruit in it it's just perfection. Nice and EXTREMELY FILLING. It is one of my favorite things to eat!

    ^^ This. YUM!!

*edited to add that I also love putting about 1/4 of a cup dry Kashi cereal over greek yogurt. Mmmm ...

I don't eat anything with high fructose corn syrup, so Special K and any Kellogg's cereal is a total bust for me personally... it also has a ton of other sugars on top of the corn syrup. I tend to go for Frosted Shredded Wheat (like another poster said, for fiber), plain cheerios, crispix, puffed rice, that sort of thing. The Kashi multigrain hot cereals are really good too (the cinnamon one is lovely) and oatmeal is always a good option, Mom's Naturals is one of my favorites in terms of oatmeal.

MFP sets your protein really low, you almost need to go over on it everyday to make sure that your body is losing fat and building lean muscle.

    huh?

I wasn't aware of that. Maybe Kellogg's should take note and stop putting so much junk into their regular brand cereals then. (That actually baffles me that they own them... but did Kashi exist first and Kellogg's bought them? Different story, then.)

Kashi was purchased by Kellogg in 2000. Most of your smaller, independent brands sell out evenutally... Tom's of Maine, Ben&Jerry's, Kashi...

    Lame.

Kellogg was one of my clients when I was a consultant. I also had Dupont and Loreal. You would be surprised at how many brands are owned by just those three clients.

Oatmeal or the plain Shredded Wheat biscuits are both nutritious and filling for me.

The breakfast cereal myth is terrible! Filling yourself with empty calories leaves you hungry in no time, and more prone to binge later on. It's good to have at least 10-20 grams of protein for breakfast, but most cereals have less than 5. In the commercials, they advertise that their cereals are "Part of a complete breakfast." What they don't mention is that they are a small part. That "complete breakfast" includes only one serving of cereal, and some kind of protein source (and, no, the milk doesn't cut it.) Many other countries serve protein-rich foods with their traditional breakfasts, and the "bread" 100 years ago was not the same as the bread today. It included all kinds of different seeds and nuts - and no refined flour.
What about sprinkling some of the cereal over some non-fat, plain yogurt (if you add a little honey, it's really not bad - and you control the sugar. The store-bought "honey" yogurt is PACKED with sugar.) ... or sprinkle it on lowfat cottage cheese with a banana.

Plain porridge has no added sugar and is very filling. You can make it with milk or add a little honey, golden syrup or fruit to get a touch of sweetness. It should be easy to eat a far more filling and less sugary breakfast for less calories than breakfast cereals if you eat porridge.

    Steel cut Oatmeal
or, if I'm in a hurry sometimes I'll have some multigrain cheerios.

But usually, that's for a snack. I generally don't eat cereals for breakfast. And also, I'm pretty sure going over on protein is alright.
