Circuit Training

Hey!

I have been on MFP for one week now and find it extremely informative. However, I do a Boot Camp class at my gym twice a week and when I add 60minutes of circuit training to my exercises it accounts for 600+ calories burned. This doesn't seem accurate to me and it allows for my calorie intake to be a lot higher, I feel like it wants me to eat too much. The class does do some cardio but it is mostly weights or stations using body weight. Does anyone else do a similar class and have any idea if the 600+ calories/hour is accurate?

When I do circuit training WITH cardio I burn around 250 in 30 minutes so about 500 for an hour (I'm 31 and 128 for comparison). I know that if you leave out the cardio, the burn will be less but I'm not sure by how much. Your best bet is to wear a HRM and see what it says (that is how I calculate my burns).

I do a personal training circuit with a personal trainer and it was giving me 1000 calories for an hour with him, which my trainer immediately said was extremely high. So, I got a Polar FT7 Heart Rate Monitor that I wear during every work out, and every bit of exercise I do so that I have an actual representation of what I burned based on my heart rate. It's never the same number. I definitely recommend getting a monitor.
