I realize that we all clean our houses as part of a daily routine (or at least should )......but I am talking about not the daily keep tidy.......
i mean vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting.......etc..........weekend cleaning that can take a few hours.

if youre breaking a major sweat i say log it0
-
I drink so much water that I log the trips to the bathroom, lol. just kidding0
-
I do it sometimes, like if I wash a wax my car....i break a sweat0
-
I do, since I do not clean everyday it is an event when I do it once a week and it is about 3 hours long lol.0
-
I do. It's consuming my Saturday and MFP has it listed as an exercise. Damned right I'm taking credit.0
-
It depends what I'm doing. If I'm doing major cleaning, then definitely. If I'm doing light stuff (dishes, dusting), then usually I don't. I should add, however, that I have my diary set to "sedentary".0
-
I log it when I vacuum and mop. It takes hours and it's really tiring! Everything else, I don't log because it's not tiring, just boring!0
-
i log it if it takes me more than a half hour to do it0
-
Lol... I don't clean often, but if I am cleaning out my work-out room I might, as it can take around 3+ hours of moving weight rack, plates, machine, barbells, dumbbells etc. ...and moving them back, Lol. But seldom ever log it.0

LOG IT!!!:happy:0
-
i log it if it takes me more than a half hour to do it
I do the same. I also find I'm proportionately more hungry when I clean for a long time.0 -
I do this every saturday... i clean for like at least 4 hours which includes house from TOP to BOTTOM... and i mean every corner, so HELL YEAH i log this in!!!!! I also wear a HRM for accuracy:)0
-
Since I'm a stay at home mom I just changed my life style from sedentary to lightly active or whatever the next one is b/c I am constantly cleaning up after someone and didn't ever think about that as being active.0
-
I agree....If sweat is present...loggit! some kals are being burned...deep cleaning, moving furniture, redecorating all can be logged in my oppinion.....0
-
If it's more cleaning than usual - like major moving of furniture and takes longer than 1/2 hr - I log it. I can work up more of a sweat cleaning sometimes than doing a normal workout.0
-
I don't. I feel like that is something that would fall under "normal daily activity"0
-
I do cleaning you house the way you are talking about is a lot of work. If you are doing it right you are sweating by the end of the day. I know I am.0
-
No me; that rarely counts for anything, yet I see some making it their "cardio". If you're doing this, and it's working, good for you - don't stop! I would not.
I rate that right up there with this fat friend of mine who wears a meter that supposedly tracks how far he walks in a day, and he counts that as his walking - lol He is still gaining weight - duh!
It's absurd, but if you clean daily, let that be reflected instead in your activity level in "settings".
That's my take, but again, if you are making this work, hat's off!0 -
I only log exercise that I do solely for the sake of exercise. The exception would be hiking or something. That is clearly physical, but done for enjoyment rather than simply for exercise.
I also don't congratulate my MFPals on their exercise burns when cleaning. :huh:0 -
I log the heavy cleaning! But like one of the other people wrote I have my status set as sedentary! So anything that I break a sweat on counts/. I just make sure that I am cleaning vigorously!0
-
I do it for my weekly cleaning chore routine thingie...but as for everyday things like dishes, making the bed, etc, no0
-
I'll probably log moving my new mattress from the downstairs room to the bedroom - that's bound to get me out of breath. But no, unless I'm properly scrubbing something or really exerting myself, I don't log it. I don't tend to do a lot of housework, my husband does more.0
-
I may not break a sweat (very old house, very cold house, unless the woodstove is blazing )
I guess I will take it into account if it takes over a half hour, which it usually does.....
Thanks for the input!!0 -
I agree with the consensus. It depends on how long and how hard you work. I have a body media fit armband and it tracks any kind of movement as activity - moderate or vigorous - I'm assuming if I am moving longer than a minute. And there is a big difference in my daily calorie burns depending on those times.
Log it!!0 -
I always end up having to clean something.. im a guy so you know lol!
It all burns calories, thats how i look at it. I take it a step further though, and monitor the time i am cleaning, and minus the time i get, or notice im becoming side tracked. So if i was cleaning for an hour, id say there is at least 15 minutes i wasnt. So i only credit 45. Duh right?!! LOL! Plus your walking around the house counts is seperate, and so is moving stuff. They all require more or less effort then others. So if you take everything, and brake it down to its proper account, it will all add up right0 -
I drink so much water that I log the trips to the bathroom, lol. just kidding
haha, that was funny! Sorry, I'm easily amused.0 -
I log it if I'm working for at least 45 minutes vacuuming, mopping, etc. I don't log the daily stuff like doing dishes or laundry.0
-
i do on saturdays, since that is our "big" cleaning days and im usually up and down the stairs 20 times and from one end of the house to another 20 times since my daughter moves everything right after i clean it0
-
I do big cleaning (vacuuming/mopping) so rarelyand since it's so outside my range of normal daily activities that I most definitely log it!0
-
If I am working hard enough to sweat, I log it but usually underestimate the time put in. For instance, if I am deep cleaning the house and I am cleaning for 3-4 hours, I will only log moderate cleaning for maybe 2 hours to account for small breaks or walking around to fetch things. But you definitely burn calories scrubbing!0
