In need of help/what drives you?

Hi all

I've been blessed with the ablilities and drive to acheive what I set out to acheive. I set my goal weight and hit it in a reasonable amount of time. I've become addicted to exercise (feels great) and I'm eating well for the most part.

Here's my delema I need goals to drive me. I'm starting to get lazier and don't want to lose what I've been blessed with acheiving.

to this point I've never measured myself and only focused on losing weight and getting healthy. should I be measing myself so that I can focus on individual body parts and use that as a driveing force or is that the wrong approach.

I eat a ton of fresh fruits and veggy's

here's what I currently have done exercise wise.
- bow flex (varied routine throughout the week) haven't focused on this as I went cardio the last month
- skipping: weather permitting
- pushups: semi-daily (400- 1000+)
-reverse crunchs semi-daily ( 100 - 500)
-squat: occasionally (800+)
-chin ups: occasionally (100+)
-Tae bo: 1 hour at a time ( 3-4 times/week)

I haven't been as diligent as I need to be with exercising and that can't be allowed to continue, especially considering the time of year.

All comments and ideas would be welcome.

    Hi Geraldm55, first all congratulation on what you have achieved so far. Scale weight loss and fat loss aren't the same thing. It takes time to lose fat. Yes, I would say start tracking your inches and if you can, your body fat percentage as well. It takes time to lose body fat percentage too. The scale will not always move or it might go up. This doesn't mean you aren't losing fat. Scale weight doesn't determine what size clothes you wear or if you are healthy or not.

    Hi Gerald. Also, congratulations on attaining a goal weight, eating healthier, and exercising. You have made the lifestyle changes that are so important in getting healthy.
    I think I understand what you are saying. You had a goal weight in mind and now that you have reached it you are not as motivated to exercise as before? Sometimes without a definitive goal it can be difficult to work toward it because you are not quite sure what you are working for. If it helps, set other goals for yourself based on your new health and strength. For example, I have a goal to be able to do a one-legged body weight squat by February. Next goal will be to do pullups. You are probably strong enough to do these but I set these small goals for myself and give it a deadline so I know I have to be working toward it. Is there anything like that you could do for yourself? A goal to be able to run 5 miles in X amount of time. I like skipping rope also and will want to eventually incorporate other styles into my routine à la http://www.youtube.com/user/rossenamait#p/u/53/lVkYjp4mqnc Maybe you could set a goal to skip rope continuously for X minutes using a new technique.
    Another thing you could do is try a new type of exercise. Sometimes I get bored with the same routine and just trying something else can get me motivated to work out again. I sometimes search workouts for track and field athletes or look up exercises to try on youtube just to get ideas. Are there other types of cardio or workouts you might enjoy?
    Using measurements can be a good way to track progress. Body fat % is probably a better indicator than any but it can be difficult to truly read. I have a scale that tells body fat % but it seems to be all over the place even if I use as directed. Still, I like to see the number and hope it will markedly decrease soon.
    Above all, do not be discouraged. It is part of life that our motivation "waxes and wanes." But it is important to keep with these healthy changes in whatever capacity you can. You are doing great!!
