Your Christmas weight loss plans

I know its early but I felt like I had to work this out well ahead of time so that I wouldn't just completely stop logging around christmas and never get back on MFP.

Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year and all the drinking and eating is part of what I love and I just don't think I could enjoy christmas if I was trying to stick to my 1400 calorie limit.
So my christmas plan is to keep logging on MFP at 1400 until Christmas eve, then I'll take christmas eve, christmas day and boxing day as free days where I don't have to worry (although I'll definitely be trying not to eat TOO much still) and then I'll get back on track. Although I know since there will be a lot of food and drink floating around if I feel like it I'll give myself some days of eating my maintenance calories too so I don't feel like I'm missing out. I'm not really concerned with losing weight in the 2 weeks surrounding christmas, just as long as I don't gain any.

So what is everyone else's christmas plans? I know there's gotta be a lot of people planning to keep on track 100% over christmas and I wish you good luck. (:

I'm planning on waking up super early on Christmas morning and going to my gym (24 hour) and running some cals off :p Nuts, I know.

That said, I don't plan on having the time nor inclination to log my food on Christmas day, too much on to be stuck to my phone or computer. :)

Im not planning on staying on track lol I hope to take christmas day, boxing day and the 27th off and eat what i please, although i dont think thats as easy now as it would of been before i started on mfp. But, everyone (except my kids) who i am sharing christmas with is working shifts over the holidays so durning those 3 days i will have alone time to whack on a workout dvd or go for a walk with the kids if i feel like it. x

Wow your gym is open christmas day?
Well that sounds like a good plan though, It'll be a slightly less guilty day if you've exercised before hand. (:

Are you at all worried about getting back on track afterwards? I know I'm going to be really tempted to keep saying "I'll start logging again tomorrow" and put it off for ages.

I'm not worried about it... It only comes around a few times a year. What ever happens.. happens.

I'm also sure that you will gain weight. and prob. water weight at that. So if the scale does jump, don't freak because it will def. be gone with in the next few days.

well I know I'm getting a game off friend thats cardio with boxing and she usually brings it over before xmas so I can go on that xmas morning for an hour before I get ready. I go out for xmas dinner so don't really have control over how the food is cooked but its mostly meat and veg.. apart from the roast potatoes cooked in goose fat!.. which I will enjoy a few... we have trifle for pudding rather than xmas pudding .. I'll probably have really light breakfast first thing in morning and save rest of cals for xmas dinner.

Then back to the workout boxing day! .. it's only one big meal for me so I'm not that worried and most of my plate will be turkey and veg! so won't be breaking my low carb diet too much!

I am planning to attempt to stick to my 1200 cals per day limit. Normal breakfast (200cals) Christmas Dinner - normal Roast Chicken Dinner, no pud. (500cals). Walk in afternoon (burn 300cals) Party Tea (700 cals). I don't really drink, so missing alcohol won't be a problem. If I go over I'm not going to beat myself up about it. But I will try to be good. Just hope the Christmas chocolate doesn't get too tempting. I going to try to be good, but I'm not going to matyr myself. If I can get in 30mins step aerobics as well that will burn another 400cals. I've got 3 days of having Christmas Dinners so I need to go careful.

plan on stacking my plate with veggies at lunch - turkey is low fat so its not too bad. Will have home made Xmas pud in the afternoon and light leftovers in the evening. I WILL count the choccies that I'll eat - cant avoid those when the family are watching movies. I will try not buy Bailieys  . I'll try to stick to spirits and low cal mixers and avoid wine  Other than the breakfast bubby :drinker: And if I dont fall asleep on the couch, will try to fit in some late night excercise
Thats the plan in any case. Reality....... who knows, but
  • Hmmmm.... one thing's for sure, I will be PIGGING OUT!! However, I shall be logging every last calorie and making sure that I up my exercise to try and compensate. I'm thinking that a nice long walk on Xmas morning with the dog will be a good start, and I've ordered some dance and party games for the Wii to keep us going in the afternoon/evening, once we're both well oiled on the drink. My other half is now on his second bottle of Baileys, of which I've only had 3x measures. It's yummy, but not THAT yummy! He also insisted on mince pies last week, so there are 2x boxes of 6 in the cupboard. I had one the day we bought them, see them every time I open the cupboard, but have refused to eat another one as they're a whopping 250 calories each!!!!! So I think my plan is to say "sod it" for the 24th, 25th and 26th, then behave myself for a few days and have a "normal calorie (1800)" day on New Years Eve and New Years Day. Then it's back to 1370 calories on the 2nd PLUS giving up smoking on the 1st!

Christmas Eve I'll still stick to my plan and exercise in the morning to allow for a few more calories around dinner (we'll do a seafood dinner at home and I'll keep it pretty healthy). Christmas day I am on the fence about tracking. I don't expect I'll be exercising but I'm not totally ruling it out if I can get up early enough. Our traditional Christmas morning breakfast is cinamin buns and I'll probably serve fruit with them. Lunch I can easily keep healthy. It's dinner and drinks I'm worried about. My parents are coming over and I'm making the dinner (which I guess is good since I can know what goes into it if I do track). I'm making a roasted beef tenderloin, salad, crescent rolls, and roasted potatoes. My parents will bring Fruitcake for dessert (which I LOVE) and I'll definitely indulge in a piece. Then there is the eggnog, beer, and wine. I am going to try to not go crazy but I can't imagine I'll stay within my calorie goals. I may track though just to keep myself mindful of how much over I'm going.

The days I know I definitely won't track or exercise are the 26th and 27th. We are going out of state to celebrate with DH's side of the family and will be staying the night. My IL's always have food out and drinks constantly flowing. So, I'll try to stay mindful and not go hog wild but I don't want to spend the time worried about logging things into the phone or obessessing. I just want to enjoy my family and have a brief respite. But, come December 28th I'm back on the plan completely.
  • Well I plan to stick to my daily food limit leading up to Christmas. Then on Christmas day through to Boxing Day I will take them as free days but making sure that I go out for a long walk on each day. That way I wont feel as bad for eating all those Christmas treats
After that I will be back on MFP as usual. I think its easier just having a couple of free days that way you don't totally fall off track of what you want to achieve

My goal for the month of December is to maintain and not gain, I figure its good practice for when I am ready to maintain weight. Next week I am traveling for work so learning to eat out/pick up healthy snacks at grocery stores will be a challenge but I am ready to take it on. Christmas parties I am going to indulge within reason. I have only drank about three times this past year so I am going to continue to avoid booze and enjoy holiday food guilt free. My gym is open the week between xmas and NY so i can continue my work outs. All of us work so hard during the year, some people may say dont blow it now but I say celebrate (within reason) how far we have all came!

Christmas day will just be another day for me this year - maybe I might be a bit sad - hope not so I can go out and do some exercise still. I do love fruit mince pies tho - so I might lash out and by myself a packet of them - but knowing me. they will also last me a month - so no harm done really.

My plan is to just keep right on doing what I've been doing all through the holidays - no changes.

This season has always - and I mean ALWAYS been when I let myself just go, and then Jan 1st, I hit the gym with the rest of the no-goal oriented dolts.

No more of that. I reached my weight loss goals - 60lbs total - and then gave myself 2 light weeks where I maintained and allowed my body to rest. And right before Thanksgiving, I dove into another 12 week program with new, higher goals.

The gyms are not crowded these days, and come January, I will start up my home gym to allow the thundering herd of sheeple to work through their absurd new year resolutions which will end once they give up and quit after a few weeks.

Then I'll have the gym all to myself once again...lol

    Sound like a plan?

I am working out extra hard this week and next week through the 23rd. I would like to lose some extra lbs before the big Christmas weekend. I'm on the "okay with losing 3-5 lbs a month train." I realize my journey with weight loss and lifestyle changes will not happen in three months, Im in it for the long term. If I maintain over the Christmas break I will be content with that goal, if I lose some extra before the 23rd, and gain it back I'll be okay with that too.

I will run on Christmas Eve morning and the day after Christmas. Maybe Christmas Day if I feel like it. I will not go back for seconds. I will enjoy eggnog/bourbon, wine, desserts, beef tenderloin, potatoes, etc. , in moderation with my family. With respect to logging food, not me, I'll put in 3000 calories for those days and be done with it. Hop on the scale around the 28th and deal with the damage if there is any.

I recently ran at night, I live in a rural/horse farm/country roads area outside of the city, loved it, the moon was out and the homes were lit up.

For the first time it will be moderation rather than a mountain of food....well, that's the idea.

Also planned a 2hr bike ride whilst everyone else is in church, so a good burn should help!

I plan on making more healthy things to eat along with less of the bad stuff. Less cookie baking, 2 batches instead of the normal 6+. The way I figure it is everything in moderation. I'm looking to change my life not just lose my weight.

Not sure about any exercising since I do that in front of my tv and the room will be wrecked with presents, etc. I will take my boy for a walk which I do everyday anyway.,

Christmas is my favorite time of year and that is something I never want to change!

Your gym ROCKS! I live in a small town with 1 okay gym and a Curves center. The gym is just okay, but they have no classes after 6pm nor on the weekend. I don't even get home until 6:30. Still I plan on joining after I make Lifetime on Weight Watchers (and no londer have to pay) them monthly fee is less than WW so even if I can only make it there for the weights and machines and an occasional class when I'm off (doesn't happen often) I'll be getting my money's worth!

Mine is going to be horrible as my gym will be closed for a week or more!! SUCKS! But there is a 24 hour gym here but I cant get out of my current gym membership :( my brother has one though, thinking of using his just for that week... Maybe dodgy but hey who cares ahahaha! I need to pump my muscles!

But christmas day I am guaranteed to go over, but my metabolism is running pretty good at the moment and I live in Australia, so christmas day will be quite warm, which means a lot of out door activities such as: backyard cricket, Water balloon volleyball and all soughts of other activites, So I should be fine :)

I plan to eat the healthy parts and limit dessert. Of course portioning is always involved! Although I have more motivation for this since I am finind out that either dairy or wheat is making me sick..

I definitely plan to track, but also plan to use the extra time off/holiday time to get in a run or brisk walk every day. I also liked the idea about active Wii games!!

I think I was lumping like thanksgiving, christmas and the days before and after into that mix.. since we had an influx of these threads before thanksgiving too.

It is funny that our tickers are almost the same.. and that our starting/ending weights are too!

    Hi All

Only just found this, so this will be something else to distract me from food ;)

I will be on a cruise for Christmas, so I plan to try and stick to healthy eating, exercise classes and the gym, obviously keeping up water intake so hopefully will not put much on, if any

I have a metabolic condition, so "taking a few days off" isn't really an option unless I want to spend the holidays in a sugar coma. And my family's not *that* bad... Actually, I have a wonderful family and I am going to focus on spending quality time with them, rather than on spending quality time with the dessert table. If my lap is full of squirming baby nephew, there will be no room there for a cookie or a piece of pie. I have recently rediscovered my lap, but it still isn't *that* big.

For me, the holidays are all about planning ahead & being prepared. I have already made a list (and checked it twice  ) of foods I'm allowed to eat. Lots of things I enjoy, on that list, like ham & turkey & deviled eggs. If I fill up on those things, I won't feel deprived at not eating the bad-for-me stuff.

I'm also volunteering to do a larger share of the cooking, myself. That way I know there will be mashed cauliflower instead of just mashed potatoes, and there will be low-carb flaxmeal pumpkin rolls made with Splenda, as an alternative to pumpkin pie. This has the double benefit of getting on Mom's good side by being helpful and handling so many of the side dishes for her.

Good luck and happy holidays to everyone!

I don't want to lose my accumulation of days logged in, so I will be logging in. I also want to track my calories, so that I get a sense of the amount of exercise needed to burn everything off. And then I will spend days doing winter sports to burn it all off!

I am going to log, but with the mind set that I might go over. It's not so much that I will allow myself to go hog wild Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but I don't want to miss out on traditions. I want my Christmas morning cinnamon roll while watching the Disney Christmas Parade! With dinner I will watch my portion size (half a baked potato for example) and, since I do the cooking, change a few things here and there to lower the calories (regular potatoes instead of twice baked or roasted green beans with garlic instead of green bean casserole). I will also allow myself a small bite of dessert.

My thinking is this. I would be really upset if I was forced to change things like one cinnamon roll on Christmas morning. That is not a way to keep up with this whole new eating plan. Such limits would end up with me quitting again because it is just NOT realistic for me.

I'm going to try to up my workouts and push myself more now and after Christmas so I can stay on track. For Christmas, I'm not going to stuff myself...
    1. because my body isn't used to it, and
    2. because I don't want to gain the weight back
I did really good at Thanksgiving... only gained about 2 pounds and had it off by the weekend. I didn't get full servings of anything really. I pretty much got 1 tablespoon of everything, a small piece of white turkey, and I stopped eating when I got full. I did have 2 small pieces of pie about 1.5 hours later, which made my stomach hurt the rest of the night. lol :frown: I enjoyed myself and I plan to enjoy myself on Christmas and Christmas Eve, but I'm not going over-indulge just to do it. I've been working really hard and I keep reminding myself that If I am going to lose the "extra me" that I need to make permanent lifestyle changes. I am also going to try to make my sweet potato casserole less than 425 calories per serving (2/3 cup), because I  them sooo much! I hope everyone enjoys all the Holidays between now and the New Year!!
