OK...this might be a little TMI, but here goes anyway. So I think i'm getting a yeast infection and I'm trying to figure out why. Is it possible from not changing my underwear right after working out? The dampness from sweat getting me all icky? Do you change right after a workout?

Yes,that's probably where you got it from. Yes, I change my underwear after a workout. I normally shower as well. Trapping sweaty moisture down there is a good way to stink to high heaven.0
-
its also a great way to develop a staph infection. moisture wicking, loose fitting clothing in a non synthetic material and changing RIGHT AWAY after working out, with a quick shower is the best thing to do for your pikachu. also, baby wipes or those charmin multiuse freshen up wipes are good to use in a pinch, to at least clean up the sweat and possible bacteria if you can't shower right away.0
-
i'll start carrying some babywipes with me to the gym, sometimes i run errands and whatnot afterwards and can't shower for a couple of hours. Thanks for the advice!0
-
Definitely bring a change of clothes - even if you can't shower at least then your dry.
Yuck - those are murder. See the doctor, get 1 pill, clear it up - get back to working out! Good job!0 -
You should ALWAYS shower if you can right after and definitely change your underwear ... For hygiene purposes and also for the sake of being clean down there... I would recommend you change your underwear as soon as possible.0

That's gross. Doesn't your gym have a locker room with a shower?0 -
that could be a possible suspect or it could be the detergent you use, diet, if your sexually active and if he had it it could pass to you just use the cream for the seven days and you should be fine if not make an appointment0

Mine doesn't! I pay 12 bucks a month for them to skip that amenity.0 -

Not all gyms have a locker room or a shower. The gym I go to doesn't have a locker room or showers. It has a bathroom, but that's it. And it is significantly cheaper than gyms that have a shower. I'd rather skip the showers and pay less. I can shower at home, thanks. (Plus, I'm disgusted and creeped out by public showers - so even if it DID have one, I wouldn't use it. I much prefer to stand in my own shower where I know what's happened in it....)
To the OP: I wear loose fitting clothes to the gym (none of the skin tight workout gear for me). After my workout, I go home and shower. I don't like how my sweaty clothes feel, so hygenic issues aside - I want to get them off RIGHT NOW.
I would make sure you're getting out of the clothes immediately. I would also take a close look at the clothes you're wearing to the gym. Are the form fitting? Tight? Might want to consider something a little less constricting to keep the moisture away from the body.0 -
After a workout, you should shower and wash your clothes....:embarassed:0

The over-the-counter stuff works fine for me. Just pop the little pill in once and done.
Bring a change of underwear if you can't shower.
Also, check in the pad/tampon area of any store. There are little individual packets of wipes. They're easier than carrying around baby wipes. They're pretty much the same thing but I've never seen baby wipes come in pocket-size packages.0 -

Yeah, I completely agree with this. Sorry, but a community shower is grosser than waiting to get home and use your own. I would skip the fungus, athlete's foot and urine that is probably on the gym shower floor. Unless of course, You bring your own cleaning supplies and clean it before you use it. Faster to go home and shower...0 -
I always keep a travel body wash, loofa, towel, and clean undies in my gym bag. I don't care if I put my workout clothes back on and wait to shower later on, my monkeys area is clean and dry.0
-
Wearing a pantyliner and changing it is a quick fix when you can't take a shower immediately afterwards. Bonus points if you also change your undies.0
-
It would be impossible for me to run errands after my workouts..... I stink so bad:) I always shower at the gym or immediately when I get home (I live 2 miles away). I also wear Nike base layers to help wick away moisture from down there. Good Luck!0

dang you're REALLY RUDE.
to the original poster, yes, just change when you're done0 -
and I used to go to the gym just to gawk at the ladies................thanks, i USED to.........0

I'd agree with most of the suggestions here. If your gym doesn't have a shower but a decent bathroom, bring a quick change of clothes and I'd make sure your undies are cotton! Those wet wipes are amazing for getting you clean in a pinch. I hate public showers. I just can't get past the whole world sharing the shower. So I always showered at home.0
-
If I were you I'd be talking to my doc. I don't shower immediately after and YI are not common for me. Be sure you are drinking plenty of water and if YI are common for you, drink lots of cranberry juice too.0
-
Thank you all for the suggestions, i'm not terribly prone to them, but have had them occasionally.
My gym DOES have showers, but I'm usually there with my whole family and they don't want to wait for me to shower, they barely want to wait for me to finish my work out...haha. Plus I'm not a fan of showers in public places anyway. I'll just keep a washcloth and a change of undies (cotton) with me to tide me over until I can get a full shower in.0 -
Just an opinion on the not showering right after part... I totally understand where you are coming from OP! Sometimes, I just have to run errands right after the gym. I know that that is often the only way I can get a work out done that day...you should NOT feel bad about what some people have said about it being "gross" that you don't shower afterwards. I personally just baby wipe areas I know I sweat a lot, add some deodorant, and go get my errands done.0
-
A lot of people mentioned baby wipes, deodorants, and body wash. You should NEVER use these things down there especially if you are prone to infections! The only thing your vagina should be cleaned with is water.
If you can't shower right away, pat dry with a towel and change your undies.0 -
Those darn nylon shiny girly panties are horrible even when you're not working out or sweating. Go cotton if you can.0

I'm not rude. It's really gross to sit around in sweaty stinky clothes while you run errands for a few hours. That's just a fact. I totally get not wanting a communal shower but not washing as soon as you're done with your workout (at home or otherwise) and letting your stink waft around is really just disgusting.0 -

That's your opinion and you're welcome to it, but nothing you have said is constructive at all... therefore a waste of time for you to post. You could simply say " I recommend showing afterwards to reduce the chance of a yeast infection" - your additions of "gross and disgusting" are in fact simply your OPINION and I must agree that it was also rude.0 -
another few tips...if you're using scented feminine hygiene products, don't...they irritate that senitive tissue. Also, if you're wiping back to front, stop that too. It drags that harmful bacteria forward. Lastly, my OBGYN told me to stop douching. You knock out the healthy bacteria and your body tries to over compensate and causes some problems down there. See a Doctor.0

Actually my first post was very constructive. She asked if it could be contributing. It absoloutly can... allowing moisture to collect and congeal in the vagina causes yeast infections. Yeast loves moist, hot places.
And second, it's not really an opinion. I'm sure many people agree the scent of body odor is pretty ick. To fester in it is just yuck. Makes my skin crawl. I just did a load of my workout clothes and the smell was ewww. Don't tell me you're not sweat stinky after a workout. If you really aren't you're doing it wrong.0 -
This is not about the YI - it's about showering after workouts. I used to take a long soak in my jacuzzi tub after workouts but I hired a personal trainer last year so I could learn all the latest info, and she said to only take a quick shower after a workout because hot soaks and long showers increase inflammation created when you exercise. Some hard core athletes even jump into a tub of cold water after exercise.
She also advises drinking a half cup of strong coffee 20 minutes before workouts and a high protein drink within 30 minutes after. Coffee- revs metabolism. Drink - helps build and maintain muscles.
As for gyms, workout rooms in hotels, etc - she said they are pretty gross places filled with germs, and advised me to wipe down all equipment before and after working out with Chlorox wipes. She also said hand sanitizers and hand sanitizing wipes do not kill some strong bacterias - soap and water is best. I'm lucky to have equipment at home, but I do use workout rooms in hotels quite a bit and I do take precautions as advised.
She shared a lot of new info with me about all aspects of sports nutrition and working out the right way - there is always new research with findings that can change how to workout, so it was worth the money.0 -

I also don't shower right after the workout. Do you know how dirty those public showers are? Waiting until you're not sweaty and changing into fresh clothes is sufficient until one gets home.
To the OP: try to cut down on sugar for a while (yeast feed on sugar) and eat plenty of plain yogurt. It should help. Also, when bathing or showering try not to get soapy water all the way up into your vagina. It will get rid of the healthy bacteria that keep the yeast in check. And don't douche.0
