NSV: I can run!!(??)

Wow...I had such a great day. A little backstory: I've been doing anywhere from 2-4 hours of exercise on Friday-Sunday for the past couple months and sometimes an hour here or there during the week. I've been working out on the elliptical, doing Dance Central 2 and a workout "game" on the Kinect. I wear my Polar FT7 while I work out and pretty much stay in the "Fitness" BPM range the whole time I work out.
So today I decided to try running outside. Last time I tried (which was probably at least 30 lbs. ago), I would always want more than anything to stop after 15 seconds and could push myself to 30 seconds but would basically only be able to do this a few times during an hour-long walk. Today...I walk/ran 7 miles!!! And I ran (okay, I'm sure it's considered a jog) at least half the time. I couldn't believe it. The whole time I was out there I was like "Am I really running? Is this real life?"
I made sure to stretch really well when I got home and drank lots of water. My only soreness at the moment is in my Achilles region, which I've been having for about a week so the run didn't cause it, but probably exacerbated it a bit.
I'm so psyched to think that by this spring, since I'm planning on keeping at it, I will be a runner!

That's awesome! So many people think they're "not runners," but really you have to just give it a try!
(Love your username by the way. Donald Miller came to speak at my college once.)0 -
This is fantastic! Way to give running another chance and push yourself to see the amazing things you can do. (I have to admit running outside is not my cup of tea, but thanks to your story, I might have to give it another go...well, maybe once temps climb out of the 20s and 30s, heh.)0

cpar: that's awesome, I really love his way of thinking.
merimeaux: Yeah, I think the only thing that got me out the door today was the fact that it was almost 40 here and I was desperate to enjoy the weather before it gets cold again. Then it just kind of turned into running lol I hope you give it another shot, too!0
