I am addicted to caffeine. I've tried to give it up and let me tell you.. it isn't a pretty sight. I managed to go 10 days without any and I was STILL sick as a dog (headaches, nausea, irritable, no energy, couldn't sleep well at night, etc). I finally caved on day 11 and drank some coffee - within an hour, I felt good again.

I know they say depending on how long you were consuming and how much CAN affect how long it takes for your body to get it through the withdrawals.

Why do you say you can't lose weight and still have coffee? I have lost 45 pounds...and I have not stopped drinking my coffee! :) I don't drink alcohol more than a couple times a year (special occasions), I don't smoke, no drugs, I am watching what I eat....but, I work my latte into my calories everyday! Well, once in a great while I skip it and have regular coffee with some flavored creamer. But, that is my treat for the day! I traded in my other junk food for coffee.
Here's how I look at it...yes, I want to continue to lose weight and be healthy. I want to eat healthy...but, I also deserve to have some guilty pleasure! I am not going without my coffee. Period! :)
  • Why can't you drink coffee?

I drink a pot of coffee a day and it helps my weight loss.
Gives me energy so I move more though the day. Caffeine doesn't hinder weight loss in any way

There is nothing wrong with just coffee, just don't go overboard with the sugar and the bad stuff
  • when i drink coffee its like i have no self control with it i guess..... i drink way too much creamer in my coffee as well!! and when you can drink a pot or two by myself a day. and im from the Seattle area and so its starbucks on every street corner and so i was drinking a pot or 2 a day plus 1-3 starbucks coffee!!! and with the creamer i use and the coffees i order, its alot of calories!!!! =/

i have been drinking coffee since i was like 12.... oh the joys of living in the home of starbucks! im about to cave back in... idk how much of this i can truely take =/

Im getting married in about 2.5 weeks and want to get outta weighing 190+(im 191 now), i wanna be in the 180s and then i was to get down to 175 a month later cuz we are trying to get pregnant and i dont want to be heavier than 175 when i get pregnant....

thats my problem. its almost easier to stop drinking it all together.... but my body feels horrible all the time!!!! ugh
  • Ahh I will be in Seattle next weekend! You guys have great coffee :D

Do you like black coffee at all? 0 calories so there would be a great option! If not fat free creamer is 20 cal a tbsp and add some stevia you have a sweet drink :] Also torani has sugar free coffee syrups - i like many of those

I have creamer in my coffee every single day. I can NOT stand black coffee.

I account for the creamer in my daily calories.

I usually stay away from Starbucks or store bought coffees (I did indulge in a cherry mocha latte that a friend bought into work for me today). But, I've heard you can have them make it with skim milk and skip the whipped cream, etc.

Have you tried Yerba Mate tea? I often replace coffee with it, and I once had a roommate who completely replaced coffee with it.

I'll be honest.. I think this is more of a willpower issue than a coffee issue. We all would love to be able to indulge our every whim and desire, but that is what got us to this website to begin with. You have to learn self control with these things (regardless of where you live). I'm sorry but I don't believe restricting yourself from these things is a healthy way of handling it. It will only make you resentful and will make you want them more. It is learning to fit the things you love into your daily calories.

Is it easy? NO WAY. Will it be worth it? Absolutely.
  • I see that you live in Puyallup. I am nearby,, Kent,,, I know what you mean by yuckbucks (I hate starbuck) at every corrner it seems.

Believe it or not, coffee is good for you.. as long you don't go overboard.

I drink 3 or 4 cups a day and don't have any problem. Is there any chance you can try to either drink it with sugar sub or black without adding milks from yuckbucks? When I was your age, I was a poor struggling student in college,, with no money for cream or sugar, I developed a taste for black coffee.. I think you can,, just work your way slowly toward it.

BTW,, every now and then, I treat myself to hazelnut mocha (sugarfree/fatfree) from Big Foot!

How I went off creamer in coffee is I started slow mixing creamer with milk then cut back to milk and skim milk to skim then finally black, coffee isn't bad cause it will give you that energy :)

Energy level? maybe its your vitamin D level, when was your last full blood workup from your doc?

I know when I went and had mine done my D level was in the single digits.... which was why i was so tired all the time and doing nothing but wanting to sleep, I wasn't drinking enough milk, getting enough sun (I am a night owl) and not taking a Vit D pill each day, now that I am doing all of the above (kinda on the sun tho still a night owl) I been having more energy =)

Also another that helps is B12

Id say get a work up on ur blood with ur doc see where your Vit levels are at =) Might even need a Daily Multi if you haven't done so already

Great advice on getting your bloodwork done and maybe adding some vitamin supplements to your diet. Another thing - stop telling yourself that you "can't" change how you take your coffee. You can change - are you willing to change? Baby steps - just as others have suggested. Best wishes to you! :flowerforyou:

The other thing I would ask, in addition to the great idea about your Vit D and B12 levels is how much are you eating? What are you eating? I've seen it before on here where people cut our their 'bad' thing but then overall they're starving themselves. Too few calories overall will cause all those sluggish and irritable feelings as well. Good Luck with your journey, I hope you figure out a way to be happy and healthy. :)

I do flavored coffee with fat free flavored creamer and use splenda. usually all that costs me is the fat free creamer. It's pretty sweet. I know that Coffeemate also has the powdered creamer which is pretty low in calories and makes the coffee even sweeter than the liquid creamer

What about coffee with some sugar-free sweetener? I use Torani syrups in my coffee. LOVE them, and of course, I may be bashed by those who say not to have all the artificial stuff. However, it sweetens my coffee (and comes in many different flavors), so it works for me. Get my caffeine, and no extra calories.

When my mother stopped drinking coffee she had headaches for about two weeks (caffine withdrawal), then she did not miss it at all and the headaches stopped. Hang in there!:flowerforyou:

2 cups of coffee a day for me, each with 2 tsp sugar and 2 tbsp half and half. Lost almost 70 lbs. so far. (I know, my profile only shows the 7 I've lost since joining here...)

If I had to give up coffee, I would not be a very pleasant person.
