Doctor.
Over the counter ear drops do nothing, and are often counter productive.
Your GP will be able to give a prescription for ear drops that'll work wonders.0 -

Not to argue with a doctor, but I swear sweet oil works. I've only used it once, but it totally worked. You say it is counter-productive? Are we talking about congestion or water in the ear? I was told to take decongestants for ear congestion, which also worked.. albeit slowly over a couple of days.0 -
Ear drops twice a day for 4-5 days...then to Dr to get them syringed. Syringing is a bit uncomfortable but it works.

Do you mean blocked ear because of wax or fluid in your tubes?
If its fluid a nose spray would be your best bet or if you can stomac it gargling with salt water. If its wax go to your Doctor x0 -
Try putting some warm almond oil in it Sam, (just warm the bottle slightly) but if its wax blocking it you'll need it syringing hun x0

Doctor always prescribes good old cooking oil for my ears! Just a little bit. If it doesn't clear then it will be a syringe jobby! But the oil will make it easier for them to do it!
PS Get better soon!0 -
I get this at least once every couple of years and go to the docs to get them Syringed - basically they pump warm water through your ear to unblock the wax. It is not at all painful just uncomfortable. You need to put drops in your ear for a few days prior to having it done to soften the wax otherwise they won't do it.
Good luck.0 -
I used to get very badly blocked ears, I use Olive Oil to clear it now and I use it every couple of weeks just to keep them from blocking up again.
Hope this helps0 -
If your ear is blocked due to earwax, you can use a little peroxide by pouring it into your ear. It bubbles up and frees earwax up to get out of there. When it stops bubbling, use a q-tip to remove the peroxide and earwax. It always really tickled to me, but if you can make it through it can help.
If it's fluid, you can try laying on a heating pad at night on your pillow whichever side the ear is clogged. If your ear canal is not swollen to much due to infection, it can cause the water to flow out.
Worst case scenario, it's some type of ear infection and you need to see a doctor ASAP. He;ll probably give you ear drops and maybe a pill to take if it's bad enough. (Hopefully it's not)
I have had a lot of ear related problems over the years and these methods (each depending on the problem, (heavy earwax, fluid in the ear or infection) have worked wonderfully for me.0 -
I've done this at home a few times and found it works really well
Lay on your side with the affected ear up, using a dropper put some hydrogen peroxide in your ear, it will bubble and fizz a bit, when it stops fizzing, add a bit more, keep doing this for about 10-15 minutes. It should relieve the blockage. Make sure to keep a towel under your head because it will drip. This also feels weirdly awesome. Haha.0 -
I think its a wax build up - serves me for using QTips right.. I literally can't hear a thing out my left ear. I have made an appointment at the doc now for tomorrow.. So hopefully he'll be able to help.. You guys are great. - THANKS for the advice0

Lay on your side with a towel under your head & drip a mixture of rubbing alchohol and warm water into your ear. Stuff a cotton ball into your outer ear so it won't drip out right away...0
