A meal to ruin your day.

So, I have been pretty good about my new diet, sticking to my daily calorie goal and eating the right foods. Generally I try to keep my meals around 400 calories and snacks under 200...minus my exercise and calories burned at work. I am sure we have all done this once or twice in a hurry, but yesterday I picked up a burger and fries after work because I need to eat with this medicine. This one meal burger and fries and a rootbeer was about 1000 calories and wasn't that filling. It's just the things we notice now that we never paid attention to before. What are some of your low calorie, yet filling meals or snacks you would recommend and what are some of your mistakes you have made like mine??

My latest *mistake*...more like mistake for listening to someone who doesn't care...was at Caribou the other day. I usually get a Northern Lite Latte (90 calories)...and I asked how many calories were in the Skim Mocha, and the lady says, "Ohhhh, maybe 30 more than the Northern Lite." Yeah right. I believed her...ordered it...drank it, and thought WOW...for the extra 30 calories, I am ordering that next time. Went to add it in my MFP counter on my phone...it was 350 calories!!! Ugh...that's like a whole meal MORE. Oh well...now I check for myself, not rely on the skinny clerk giving me the weird look like *Why would chubby girl care about a few extra calories?*.
My favorite go-to meals are salads, and fish with veggies. Snacks that don't kill my calories count are popcorn with lime juice and salt (smartpop bags are 100 cal) and half a serving of wheat thins (8 whole crackers) with a laughing cow lite...for a total of 100 cals as well.
Edited to add...you did say FILLING meals...I gotta have some Feta cheese and meat in my salads if it's my dinner! And for fish I love the parmesan crusted tilapia from Sams Club (220 cals and big).0 -
I hear that, I don't like to drink my calories either, one of my big loves is Orange juice which is like 170 calories for a 12 oz bottle, one of my fav drinks is V812 oz can only 70 calories. I moved away from sodas which has helped a lot I will maybe have one of 2 a month now. I hate that I do not like salad but i do like fish and should maybe involve more in my diet.0

My husband hates salad too...but he also likes v-8 like you...one easy meal that helped him keep on track is a bunch of frozen veggies (whatever you like...peas, green beans, carrots, etc) ground turkey and v-8 juice for a quick, low-cal, filling soup/stew depending on how thick you make it. He gets in a lot of veggies, and it stores well, so you can do a whole batch and grab leftovers all week.0

I have this snack that always fills me up. I get 2 light cruskits, about 50ish grams of cottage/ricotta cheese and put some slices of tomato on top. With some salt/pepper, it's delicious, and is only about 100 calories.
The biggest mistake I made so far was when I was out shopping and was starving so I was in a rush and went to a Mexican fast food place (This is in Australia, we don't have Taco Bell). I grabbed a """""salad"""", which said "chicken and veggies" on the menu, but turned out to be a massive bowl of fried rice or something with pretty much no veggies at all. Anyway, since I was hungry I ate it. I assumed it would probably be about 500 calories because it really didn't look that healthy, then later checked to see how many calories it was - 800 to 900 calories!!!
So I guess my point is - always check online to see what you're about to have, I made the biggest mistake when I was in a rush.0
