When do you log? End of day or before you consume?

I was just wondering what you all do. I find if I don't log while eating I don't do it all and I fall off the wagon. Even better I should log before I eat it as a deterrence ;p

I log in the morning as I'm having my one cup of coffee. I find it makes it easier to stay on track.
  • I log constantly throughout the day as I go. I've found that the more I log, the easier it is to find meals that are smaller in calorie because you learn to memorize how many calories are in different foods. I've been logging consistently for about 2 weeks now, and I'm just now at the point where I will eat about 300 calories about every 2-3 hours to get in 1500 or 1600 per day... and when you look at it like that, its been even easier for me and you dont have to worry about logging so much. I like to log though, especially when I work out cuz I like to see how my goal calorie changes. I know some people plan out all their meals at the beginning of the day and log them all in before they eat, and that may work to help keep you on track too! Whatever you do, be consistent and stay within your goals! We can do this!

I log about twice a day. After I eat breakfast and prepare my lunch to take with me I'll log that. Then when I get home I'll look at what I have left and my macros and figure out what I'm going to eat and then log as I make it.

When I'm logging, I tend to do it in the morning. I've been known to make a bunch of changes from the morning until I close it out at night, but I like knowing how many calories I have to work with through the day. There are times when I'm at work and someone will offer something delicious. If I've already logged everything, then I know if I have enough calories to have it or not. :)

I am a planner. I plan as much as possible the night before. If I logged at the end of the day, I would probably be over a lot, because how do you know what you are putting in your mouth all day long?

I log as soon as I fix the meal or right after I finish eating it. Usually I eat at my computer anyway. If I didn't do it that way, I'd likely forget something I added in while cooking or after. Even seasoning can have calories. Curry powder, for instance. Plus it tells me how much exercise I'm going to need to stay around 1200 that day. If my breakfast is over 1200 calories (and it has been!) I know it's going to be a get out and walk a lot day.

I log them as I eat them or shortly thereafter...sometimes before.

I try to log everything in first thing in the morning, that is if I know what I want for lunch and dinner. Lately I've just wait till I sit down to eat or right before I cook it, to be sure I won't go over my calories.

Typically, I make my lunch (and snacks) while I'm cooking breakfast, so I log breakfast and lunch together. Then log anything else as shortly thereafter as I can.

Since I don't use the phone app, on days I can't get to a computer conveniently, I keep little scraps of paper in my wallet where I'll write down anything I haven't logged until I can get to the computer.

Dinners at home get logged in when I do my weekly grocery list.

Breakfast and Lunch get logged either before I make it (if I know exactly what I plan on having) or right before I eat it.

Dinners out get logged either right before I eat it (if I am at a friend's house) or as soon as I get home.

I try to do as much pre planning as is possible because having a plan keeps me on track (I am OCD and planning/schedules is my biggest issues).
  • I log right before each meal/snack. If I don't, I may eat too much without realizing it. :(
