Why would anyone start now? Glutton for punishment, I guess. But it's as good of a time as any I guess.

Let's start out with the easy stuff.

Jake.

25. Huge. Starting out trying to lose 50lbs.

Not having a huge amount of trouble motivating myself. My fiancee is a great drill sargeant which is exactly what I need. I go to the gym five times a week, mixing cardio and strength training each day. Recently, I've started working out at night as it tends to curb my night eating--a huge problem in the past. I always used to starve myself all day and then max out at night. Crazy style. As in two bags of popcorn, a two liter of coke, some doritos, and maybe an ice cream sandwich to lull into my food coma. Horrible horrible horrible. I've never really had good eating habits, and thinking back to when I was younger, I can see when I picked them up and how. Anyway.

I do like that I have to input all my food daily, so it helps me to understand what Im eating and helps me to pick out better foods for myself. The accountability is also great. I literally feel ashamed sometimes when I let myself sneak a cookie or some other snack. But I know that's normal and you can't beat yourself up about it. I am seeing results already. And that's awesome.

I guess I just wanted to say Hello to everyone and get my name out there.

So hello. You can add me if you'd like. I comment on everything though. So maybe you shouldn't.

Happy Slimming, and Merry Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa/Festivus

    Welcome to the "party."

And just think, by starting a few days before Christmas, you're getting a jump on everyone who will start on January 1.

Sounds like you're off to a great start and have some support to help you get where you want to be.

Have a happy and healthy 2012!
  • Haha! Great post!

Francis. 20. Was huge, now not so much, my total weight loss goal is 55 pounds, currently down 24.

Welcome! I feel the same way you do about the calorie count and having that guilty feeling after you log it.
In my experience it helps a lot if you log it and then eat it haha usually seeing the total calorie cost and such
is enough to turn me off of it. But good for you for trying to get healthy and your right now is as good a time as any!
Welcome, and enjoy your holidays and remember it's not about NOT eating any good food it's about limiting the
amount of yummy (delicious good-looking but secretly a killer) amount of food you eat!

Good Luck and you'll find that people here on MFP are amazingly motivating even though most of us have never met and will help keep you in check, and fully understand your struggles because we're all in this together! :)

Welcome to the party! I returned to MFP after Thanksgiving because I completely overdid it then I was so out of control and I can't afford to continue to eat that way if I want to live a long and healthy life with my family. I intend to enjoy Christmas and New Year but now instead of numbing myself with food, I intend to be conscious about what I eat and spend more time enjoying getting together with family and friends. Food cannot be the center of my universe. I am so much more than what I eat.

Think of it this way: if you can keep at it through the holidays, then you can definitely do it!

....At least that's what I keep telling myself!
  • oh yes a bad time to start, but its kinda hard to resist a treat here and there! But better to start now, than later. keep up the good work!

I agree. I think portion control is the most important thing. Understanding that yes, there is an entire ham on the table, but no, you don't have to lick all the maple glaze off of it is something different for me. The holidays are hard on everyone. And I kind of wanted to be hard on myself in the beginning anyway. That makes the rest of the year seem easier.

I also told myself it wasn't going to be a New Years Resolution. Those never work. And I really want this to go well. So here's to Mid-December Resolutions!!! I would click add smiley, but I'm already over my calories burned for this week. Boom.

The holidays are as good of a time as any!!! My family thinks I am nuts for doing this over the holidays, but I am not sure why I would wait! Honestly, I think it is almost easier right now because it is such a social time. I can go to a party or family gathering and talk and socialize and not think about eating. When I'm home and bored, I tend to eat out of nothing to do. So, there is always an upside. Good luck and take care. You can do it.

Every day is a new start day, so they're all as good as each other.

I think holiday time is a great time to start. Why wait till after you have eaten to much. This will help you curb some of the extra calories you take in at this time of year. So cheers to getting started on your journey.
