Can anyone recommend a good ankle support that will fit when I have my tennis shoes on.
I have several already but they only fit when I wear my boots. I have a medium elastic one but it feels like it is cutting off circulation.:grumble: Any siggestions please.

Hi!
I was born with club feet (I had re-constructive surgery when I was a baby) so I've had ankle problems my whole life.
I find that some arch supports seem to help me - I found some gel ones for only 5 bucks at Target, but I think you can get them anywhere.
I also saw an ankle support I have been anxious to try at Target - it was elastic as well, I think, but it had 'vents' in it to improve circulation and to cut down on swelling. I don't think that was too expensive either.
I haven't found one that I've tried that doesn't make my feet swell/cut off circulation after a while with tennis shoes on...if you find one I'd love to know about it!
Hope this helps! :flowerforyou:0 -
Hey There!
During one of my recent workout classes, I twisted/rolled my ankle pretty bad and was out of commission (per doc's orders) for over a week and was placed in this fashion taboo bulky ankle air brace ~ it did however work beautifully!! After I was able to take the brace off I was able to return to my workout classes. However, I needed some other form of support for that ankle so that I didn't hurt myself again. At Walmart I found this elastic ankle support brace. It comes in different sizes (i.e. small, medium & large). It is tan and you just slip it right over your foot. It works really well and gives my ankle good support during my workouts. The only drawback that I have discovered is that I can only put it on when I am about to start my workout and I need to take it off immediately thereafter or my ankle/leg/foot areas will swell.
Hope this helps. And I too am interested in any other braces, supports, etc., that anyone else might come across. Thanks!

Thank you for this thread! I have just suffered an ankle injury/discomfort & I'd hate to give up my step aerobic workouts!! Don't worry, I'll take it easy! No power moves! :grumble: :grumble:
I'm going to check out Walmart tonight & see what I can find!! :bigsmile:0 -
I just bought the one form m Target it is a Nexcare one that breaths. It is not what I am personally looking for. My shoes do not fit with it one and it doesn;t give me support were I need it.But it did feel cummfy. Just my thoughts on it0

I also have some lace-up braces that are quite high (they come up right below my knees) and you can control how tight they are.
Which part of your ankle is hurting?0 -
It is not so much my ankle as it is just below my ankle on the foot itself. Plus my ankle always looks swollen because of a broken leg a couple years ago. My left leg is messed up from top to bottom0

walmart and target both have one by ACE bandage that is just an elastic toeless sock for the most part. I don't know contriction wise how this will feel in a shoe. Another option is to use sport tape and tape up your ankle. Tape is great because you can basically customize the fit.

Tape is a good idea! I've never tried that, but you would definitely be able to put more pressure where you need it.
So where it's hurting is the side of your arch? I would definitely try the gel arch supports. I've had plastic arch supports made especially for my feet, but I think the gel ones work a ton better (and, they're a ton cheaper!).
Hope your foot feels better soon! :flowerforyou:0 -
It is just to the left of the center of my foot. If I move my foot certain ways I can feel something in there pop but no one can figure out what is wrong. I have had MRI's and 3d imaginge done. I usually wear a aknel support because it covers my foot and ankle but they don't fit under my shoes just my boot and it is hard to run in boots. I think it is the pressure holding everything snuggly that makes it feel the best0

I would suggest you go see an athletic therapist (not a physiotherapist, or athletic trainer) or an osteopath. Both of these professionals tend to have a real understanding of the nuances of the mechanics of these odd, but typically stressed areas. My daughter, who was a kayaker lost total rage of motion in her shoulder and saw specialist after specialist - we found a great athletic therapist/osteopath who was able to identify and realign some of the support structures and within a week her shoulder was released and working normally. They just have a different perspective.0
