Cleanse

  • Question.

A few years ago I went to one of those diet clinics where you have to buy the protein supplements, and the first thing they did was put me on a 3 day cleanse where I ate all the red meat and green veggies I wanted. I lost 11 pounds in those three days. Granted it was probably all water, but my question is, how healthy was that?

I did the master cleanse (lemonade diet) last summer for 12 days and had amazing results. ...
The only downside is that it does slow down your metabolism tenfold, so you have to make sure that afterwards you ease out of it properly and start with small meals so that you;re body doesn't gain the weight back immediately.
    Boy, that sounds healthy.

I invite everyone to Google "master cleanse myth". :flowerforyou:

If your cleanse is just eating red meat and vegetables, I don't have a problem with it. I just don't know why it's called a cleanse.

    The prize of knowledge!
  • Somehow it doesn't seem healthy to live off of shakes and vitamin supplements, even if it is only for 11 days. What about one of those 10-15 day veggie & fruit cleanses? That way you're still getting substinance? I've personally never done a cleanse, so I don't know much about them.

    I like this one!!
That's all I need to cleanse......... WATER, fruit, veggies :)

I did the 10 day AdvoCare Herbal Cleanse. It's simply something that is added to your diet, not something that replaces your diet for a set amount of time. It has a fiber drink, probiotic supplement, and an herbal cleanse tablet. It is made to cleanse your liver, and I felt such a difference afterwards. It's amazing stuff, even if the fiber drink is one of the gnarliest textured things I've ever drank...

I have a friend who does these cleanses periodically and I've never understood why.

I had to do a cleanse for a colonoscopy and it only took about a half a day. What are these things actually cleaning out in a week or two?

Has there ever been an actual scientific study that has proven that these are actually beneficial to your health?

Correct. I only believe reputable sources of information that I find, and they all point out that the master cleanse is a fraud. :drinker:

For a cleanse, I like to take a big gulp of soapy water and jumping up and down vigorously to get my insides all sudsy

But in all seriousness, your liver and kidneys cleanses you quite efficiently:flowerforyou:

I did the master cleanse (lemonade diet) last summer for 12 days and had amazing results. As long as you follow the cleanse instructions and do the cleanse exactly the way it says you should feel good and feel the effects. Not only did I shed pounds, but my digestive system felt great afterwards and I could feel the effects it had on cleaning out my body. The only downside is that it does slow down your metabolism tenfold, so you have to make sure that afterwards you ease out of it properly and start with small meals so that you;re body doesn't gain the weight back immediately. With that being said, you need to continue on with a healthy diet afterwards.

Serious question...what are these "amazing results"?
No offense, but you could lose weight if you only drank anything for 12 days, and of course your digestive system would feel good because there is nothing in it.

I bet if I made a website about it, use some skinny celebrity, and state some pseudo science, someone would :)

Cleanses clean out every thing there is good bacteria you need for the body to work properly, just eat properly and your body will continue doing what it has been doing for years. Cleanses are a waste of money and can be harmful.

Correct. I only believe reputable sources of information that I find, and they all point out that the master cleanse is a fraud. :drinker:

But you've never done it yourself so you wouldn't know.

the only way you'd "know" is if you had some type of before / after x-ray of your colon tract.

Why would I, when I can educate myself on the subject beforehand? I've never touched poison ivy before, and don't plan to. I know it's not going to be pleasant. :indifferent:

Also, shocking though it may seem to some, the internet is not actually the source of all knowledge. Many people have actually had an eduction in the hard sciences, which alone serves to debunk these sorts of myths...
