Got a Suunto M2 HRM for Xmas and need some help. When I have been running I was using my Nike Sportsband to calculate my calories burned. Roughly I would burn about 364 calories for a 35 min run at 6mph. Now when I just used my new HRM it shows 129 for 25 min at 6 mph. Just wondering if this sounds accurate.

Thanks

I have a Suunto as well, which I have had for about 8 months. When I work out the longer I work out it seems the calories increase at a higher rate, but it would not explain the large discrepancy. I believe Suunto uses a different calorie counting algorithm, this may explain the discrepancy. As I understand there is also discrepancies between the HRM and Movescount websites, which is ran by Suunto. Do you have download capabilities with that site? You may want to try it to see if it calculates the calories differently. I would try but I don't have the USB dongle to download.

I know that Suunto ties some of there calculations in with ACSM, which is widely respected, but I believe it is just the "Training Effect" module. I know "Training Effect" makes a difference on my calorie count, seems like if I am at a higher intensity level(TE) my calories increase at a higher rate. Does the M2 have "Training Effect" you may want to see where the ratings are with that. Since this unit is new, your TE should be low, because TE is a learned rating.
