Newbie with Chron's disease

Hello

I've joined as I have a few pounds to loose to be in a suitable weight range for my 5'1 height (or should I say shortness) The main thing I need to do is get off my *kitten* and exercise and it would be good to have some MFP friends to share accountability and encouragement.

My eating habits are also dreadful! There...I've admitted it! I can go from being on a very strict health food (no gluten, dairy etc etc) diet to stuffing my face with chocolate and chinese. This is not healthy for anyone, and the fact that I also have Chron's disease means I really do need to sort my eating habits out before I do more damage to myself.

Any support is welcome and I will happily support others in return whatever age/gender/weight target etc you are.

:)

I also have Crohn's Disease and have been on IV Remicade for the past year (it has been wonderful for me).

Work with your doctor on your nutrition needs. I found we do not absorb supplements and when I got to the point of needing to eliminate too many things from my diet it was time for a change in my treatment.

For me the one thing I really needed to avoid was what people call on here "skinny fat"...you need to be strong for when you do have a serious flare. I have gained a lot from adding strength training .

I wish you luck...you can do this!!!!

    Peace,
    Cami

My son suffers from Crohn's disease also.

There is a section with diseases and conditions. Check it out.
  • Thank you for your reply Cami, I'm glad your meds are working well for you.

I think I will talk to my doctor about nutrition and see if there is any advice he can give me. I did see a nutritionist a few years ago but it cost too much for me to keep going.

What do people mean by 'skinny fat' ? I'm starting up Yoga and Pilates again soon to ease myself into things and maybe start running once it's lighter in the evenings.

Will have a look at some of the recipes on the link you sent me dls, thanks.

Skinny-fat is when you get your weight down(by restricting calories) but have not developed muscle and still have a high body fat ratio. That is a very dangerous for people like us.

Pilates and Yoga are excellent! As I aged I did develop Crohn's related arthritis (R.A. is a common secondary inflation). The more you can do to keep your joints healthy the better. I keep saying my goal is to die with as many of my original body parts as possible.
