The first day of the year, the first day of eating healthier... and I already blew it... big time. Oh well, there is always tomorrow!

  • No, you didn't. You tripped up, you didn't "blow it". Don't give up! Log everything, then you've got a record and you can look back over it later.

My first day of eating healthy, I ate nearly 3,000 calories. I gave up. 6 months later, here I am, starting again. Do you want to do that? No. So pick yourself up and tomorrow's a new day.

Also, if you make your food & exercise diary public we can have a look & give advice on how to "cheat" those foods. And feel free to add me as a friend if you need more support :)

Don't be so hard on yourself! I found that making small goals instead of trying to change everything at once helped! Plus still alowing.myself the odd treat is always good to as you don't think your missing out then. You only really fail when you give up so stay strong you can do this!

Feel free to add me if you like. :)

I think you can't be harsh on yourself! We are only human... it is all about progress! Good luck and keep going!

You have to give yourself time to get into new habits. Like Clarec said, start with small goals and work your way up. You have a lifetime of habits to change, you can do this, stay positive and celebrate the small victories.

if you were taking a trip and made a wrong turn and got off track a few miles, would you stop and turn around and go home or say to yourself, oh man i need to figure out what i did wrong and get back to where I need to be to get to my destination? That is what this is, it is a journey where you are going to have some wrong turns. figure out why you did what you did, journaling always helps me, there is a place at the bottom of your food diary to make notes, and then work to get back to your original destination.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I was overweight from the age of 12. Weighed 336 pounds in 2005. It has taken a lot of trial and error, ups and downs to get to where I am now. You can do it if you set small goals instead of looking at the ultimate goal. Just keep a positive outlook and every one here at MFP is great support. Good luck.
  • No, you didn't :)

I've realised that making resolutions to eat perfectly from a set date are doomed to fail. We are all flawed human beings, sometimes cake will happen. Those who loose loads of weight seem to be the ones who understand that there will be off days and can incorporate them in their plan.

Work out your goal to reach, focus on the result you are after and keep taking steps to get there. No one expects you to be 100% perfect all the time (except perhaps yourself).

(p.s. if you need any more support feel free to add me)
  • Thank you all for your support! I was only joking about "Blowing it!" I did not mean that I was quitting or giving up. I only meant that there is still so many leftovers, candies, ect... and that it was too good to pass up. I did better today. I don't expect myself to be perfect. In fact, I decided a few months ago that I would not "Diet", but will eat more sensibly. I could never follow a strict diet, well... unless I was deserted on an island and someone delivered my meals. LOL. I do thank you all for your support. I need to watch how I write, because words like, "Blowing it." seem off-setting. That is just my sense of humor. Thank you all. I truely appreciate all the advice and kind words.

Iwent over todays calorie b goal as well, thanks to a restaurant gift card that we decided to use up tonight. That should be about it for the holiday slide I've been on. At least I tracked it ;-)
