Just went to the store and bought some HCG drops.

HCG.jpg

This is what I bought, and I haven't tried it yet. I've heard the hype about eating only 500 cals while taking this but I'm going to stick with MFP calorie diet..which is 1660 a day.

Should I take it back? Is it a waste of money?

I've done some research and people swear by this but I'm not doing the 500 cal thing...I wanna do this the healthy way, not starve my body of what its actually needs.

You can take them but they won't do anything at all for aiding in weightloss, your best bet would to get a refund

It is a complete scam. The drops that you just bought were banned recently by the FDA.

It is the VLCD that will cause you to lose weight. It has been proven that the HCG does nothing.

Give me a few minutes and I will look up plenty of links to articles for you to read about it.

it's not the drops that help with weight loss, it's the rediculously low diet. Take em back and keep plugging along.

Return them or toss them. HCG is meant to be a fertility and hormone replacement drug. It is not approved or proven for weight loss. It's all a load.

I applaud you on not going the 500-calorie-a-day route.

As for the drops? No scientific proof that they do anything. You may as well take a sugar pill.

You are doing fine without drops to help you. Just take your time and don't be in a hurry to drop it all at once. I know how hard that is. I have been at this for quite a while now...but it is worth taking it slow. That way you have less of a chance of gaining it all back!!

But make sure you log the calories from it!

Ya don't take them. They aren't going to make you lose anymore weight.
  • Stay away! You can do this without an unsupported and expensive drug. There are plenty of healthy options out their to support your weight loss goals. Don't fall into the "lose weight fast" trap! Why give up one bad habit only to replace it with another. Good luck on your journey!

  • Yes take them back. HCG is NOT recomended at all. There was another forum I am on and a GYN doctor spoke to this stating that he has been seeing problems in his practice and also something about liver cancer possiblilty. HCG is the hormone that is elevated in pregnancy. I am a retired medical professional and and am not for this at all. Long term effects are unknown. It is a quick fix and could be very dangerous! Anytime one starts to use hormones without the supervision of a medical provider, there can be problems. I do not think many providers in this country would advocate the use of HCG for weight loss.

My best friend & I have always been super competitive with each other - she went on HCG and dropped about 10lbs in 14 days. I was so jealous. I caved & bought them (despite my better judgement AND knowing the whole time she only lost the weight cause she was only eating 500 calories per day).
I did it for 14 days. I dropped about 9 lbs. I didnt feel terrible during. No real side effects, no "severe" hunger.
    BUT..... BUT.....
I GAINED IT ALL BACK in a matter of weeks. AND... once I went off the drops (if they ARE indeed a hormone) I was BANANA's crazy. My emotions were off the charts & I have never had such crazy mood swings (think PMS x100).
    Its just NOT WORTH IT
I talked myself into justifying the diet and hoping it would work (hi, quick fix to weight loss? sign me UP). but its not.
Its not healthy, its not the answer to our weight-loss prayers and you'll end up suffering (literally - 2 weeks of starvation) for nothing.
  • I just did a quick google / FDA / HCG drops and found this letter from the FDA to HCG drops. As I read it, the problem the FDA has with HCG is how it alludes to curing, aiding and assisting to cure a number of diseases and medical problems. I admit I skimmed over the letter, but it didn't really say that it wasn't an effective weight loss tool, should you choose to go that route, which I don't recommend.

  • Yes HCG is the hormone that is elevated when a woman is pregnant. When taking the hormone I think it has something to do with trying to stablize the insulin level thereby not getting the blood sugar spikes. I would have to do more reading on this. But I know it is NOT recommended. I know that Canada sells HCG.

I agree with the general consensus -- return them! Anytime you're messing with your hormones, you could be playing with fire. Just stick with what works -- portion control and exercise!
