    Ramen

    Oh lord. literally ten bucks for a whole month based off of this list alone...I should know. XDDDD

    Just calculated my free cash flow for a month, and that's about all I have.

    I usually grocery shop twice a week. Todays trip included:

    fresh blueberries
    Fuji and Honeycrisp apples
    green peppers
    green and yellow zucchini
    bear naked granola
    instant oatmeal
    50/50 spinach/spring mix blend
    oranges
    bananas
    canned tuna
    7 grain bread
    french dressing
    strawberry fruit spread
    whole wheat penne rigate
    pasta sauce
    mixed frozen veggies
    yogurt
    frozen burritos
    portabello mushrooms
    dried kidney beans
    tofu
    whey protein

    All organic, minus a couple items

    Wow with some of these lists I can not even start to think what I would make for dinner or anything like that off of the lists.

    But with my picky husband my meals look like this

    tacos
    spaghetti
    navajo tacos
    fettecuini

    those are our staples and then most days we don't eat together and its like I eat boxed things like
    Homestyle bakes
    stove top stuffing

    most of these things are not with any other sides and barely ever any meat (not on purpose)

    With my husband I don't think we will ever have a grocery list that looks like that unless we get a significant pay raise and let him buy and cook his own meals and me and the kids can eat our own healthy stuff lol. but I don't see that happening untill we are both out of school and both have jobs. which will take at least 7 years lol then i will need to learn how to really cook. haha


    My husband is very picky and so are my kids. They eat all the junk and I eat the healthy stuff. It can be frustrating! He eats a protein (chicken, steak, pork) with french fries every night and sometimes iceberg lettuce salad.

    Here is my list, preferably grass fed, no antibiotics, etc when I can. Usually I can get these at Trader Joe's.

    Almond Milk (original flavor)- I have switched to this from cow's milk. It tastes better and has more calcium.

    My bill is the same as when I was buying crap. I am taking out the crappy food and substituting it with better food. It REALLY isn't more expensive.... unless you start getting organic. Just regular fruits and vegetables is not if you stop buying bad food. Now if you are buying BOTH, your groceries will obviously double. Why not making Ground turkey tacos and seasoning the turkey well? Or just not buy stove top? Make whole wheat spaghetti with ground chicken meat sauce... Those are some suggestions.

    A typical week's worth of groceries for our house is:

    Dozen eggs
    Quart whole milk
    Pint half n half
    pound of coffee
    quart of juice, usually orange sometimes apple
    6-8 pounds of in season fruit
    whole chicken or duck
    2-4 pounds boneless skinless chicken breast
    pork loin or roast
    steak or ground beef
    pound of fish
    loads of dark leafy greens, frozen if fresh isn't looking good that week
    1/4 pound fancy cheese of some sort
    large container of plain yogurt
    frozen berries unless fresh are affordable/in season
    loaf of bread
    3 bananas
    some kind of fresh pasta (though i just got a pasta maker for xmas and will soon be making pasta!)
    dried fruit of some sort
    nuts of some sort
    whatever grains i want for that week's meals (rice, bulgar, quinoa, couscous)
    peanut butter
    honey
    preserves of some kind
    oatmeal or granola
    potatoes
    onions
    carrots
    other random in season vegetables
    whatever fresh herbs i need for the week's meals

    99%of my shopping is at the flea markets in Calgary because it is cheaper, fresher and organic...If I buy meat which is rare it is there too....

    It is true, my husband and kids used to be the same..I just started bringing in the fresh and now they get upset if salad isn't on the table...It turned out for me to be cheaper to cook and eat fresh then before by almost 600 a month......I go to flea markets and only fresh...I went from 350 average a week for a family of 6 to 1-200 a week all fresh...the kids get smoothies all the time...my husband cooks only grilled and fresh...it is awesome...I just learnt to get creative with the shopping..The other great thing about flea markets is big bags of fruit and veggies on sale for juicing...I may have struck a gold mine but it is way cheaper for my family to eat fresh...

    Well, my shopping list changes from week to week as I'm a slightly obsessed cook & always try new recipes (and live on my own). This week it looked something like this though:

    Chicken breasts (for Jamaican Jerk chicken kebabs with mango salsa - delicious!)
    Fresh tuna (baked in the oven with veggies & asian seasoning)
    Tinned tuna (light dinner - mixed with yogurt, seeds and wholegrain mustard)
    Frozen king prawns (for Vietnamese summer rolls and Kung Pao prawns)

    2% natural yogurt
    light mozzarella cheese (for fig, green bean & mozzarella salad)
