Woop woop!
Just for all you non-English people, there's not really any such thing as an 'english accent'.
Accents over here are VERY regional. From Scotland to Cornwall, from Ireland to Hull, everyone has a different accent! Even then, differnet parts of Scotland have different accents for example. Scouse, Geordie, Brummie... the list goes on.
We may not be as big as America, but I'd say our accents are just as diverse.0 -
My mum is from Bucks so when I first joined a new school everyone thought I sounded really posh, but now when I hear myself talk on the phone or anything I sound so northern! Manchester accent wins again! I don't really like it though, I'd rather sit on grars and take barths... Strange?
I love the Geordie accent and I never really liked the Black Country accent, but then I met this really good looking guy from Dudley, and suddenly it isn't so bad... Haha.
haha I think your the first person to say that and Dudley is a really thick Black Country accent did he ask you for a 'kipper tie'
I probably am! I've read a poll somewhere that it's the most disliked accent of the entire UK, I'm sure that's not true though!
And he didn't, is that rude? It sounds rude.0 -
British, Leicester lass here  I don't have a regional accent, per se, however the way I say things is typical for Leicester. I'm told by my friends that I have a very posh accent :noway: which I don't believe. Though saying that, my accent gets posher, more English and more noticeable when I'm abroad  as my Aussie friends pointed out when I was there for my recent hols!
I'm exactly the same, the area where I'm from is mostly farmers and that (haha so typical) and since both my parents are from London areas I have this posh London accent that people always comment on, so round where I live I sound so odd, and the second I'm around people with a different accent to what I'm used to hearing my accent gets posher and posher, it's so embarrassing I just try to not talk!0 -
Unless you don't speak at all, you have an accent. Everyone does.
I'm from a small town in New York. The local accent I picked up living there is apparent in the way I say bagel. Short A instead of long. Every time. Drove my Jewish grandmother crazy.0 -
I used to have a strong east end london accent (cockney) but it has softened over the years I've been living in the south west. Now it is a combination cockney/bristolian accent which some people find hilarious. Probably the worst accents to combine together in my opinion :P
tee hee hee - this made me giggle, I can just imagine 'ello 'ello me lover LOL.
I am not fond of my south west accent I would love to shake it.0 -
I'm from Manchester- but I don't have have a strong Mancunian accent, I think it's quite typically British, I get called posh quite a lot, but in my view I'm just well spoken and eloquent....I guess I do like accents, but I think being from the U.K. and having Irish relatives means they do not affect me so much any more! I lived in Nashville for a year when I was about 3, but I think that's just added to my "poshness" as it probably distinguished my parents accents even more due to the contrast!0

haha no no no its not rude at all kipper tie is cup-of-tea read it back with the midlands accent, same as you can't say beer can without sounding like a Jamaican saying bacon0
-
This is too funny, I was just thinking about this less than an hour ago. I don't have an accent but when I get around my family in Northern Minnesota I pick up theirs very quickly and than it takes me weeks to get rid of!
^^ haha same thing with me and the Nebraska//Iowa region0 -
I dont think I have an accent, but Ive been told that I have a mix of Canadian and a Southern (hillbilly) accent. I have no idea how I got the southerner accent, as Ive never even stepped foot in the US0
-

-
I don't think I have an accent. I'm in southwest Louisiana...I think I sound "normal" lol. I love the deep Cajun accents though that are found in more eastern parts of Louisiana. I think the only stereotypical southern word I say is ya'll.0

Everyone loves my Kiwi accent (New Zealand)...0

One of my best friend's is from South Africa, and she has a very thick Africans accent except when she gets drunk, then it sounds something like Welsh.0

Lol, OP. I'm from rhode island but have lived in East TN for almost five yrs. when I go home they tell me I'm picking up a southern accent, and when I meet new people here the first thing they say is "not from here, are you?". I do say y'all now because it sounds nicer than "yous" or "you guys.". And my son will call everyone Miss (their first name) or Mr. (their first name) no matter where we live (or I guess Mr or Mrs Last name if it seems more appropriate).0

I lived in upstate NY till I was 6 then was raised in OH. I moved to NC when I was 24, people in NC ask me where I'm from all the time and those from NY or OH often will ask what part of that state I'm from.
Now when I go home to visit, my family all make fun of me saying that I talk like a Southerner. Honestly I don't have a southern accent though, I just use a lot of the phrases they use here.
Now my youngest daughter, is so hillbilly I have a hard time understanding her at times. She is definitely all Southern Belle.0 -

When he starts saying "ma'am" or "sir" then you'll be even more southern.0 -
My wife says I sound like Donnie Baker!! She Lies!!0

I'm Australian but have been living in NY/NJ for two years. I think I've toned down my accent a lot since I've been here because a lot of people can't understand me otherwise.
Most of the time people think I'm British, but I have gotten Kiwi and South African as well.0 -
Well im a Londoner so i speak like a Londoner, LOL if im speaking English, if im speaking French then i have a French accent0
-
I have been told I have a fairly posh "the Queens" English accent, as I was an RAF kid.
But having lived in Yorksire for 10 years I most certainly have a twang.0 -
I have a bit of a mixed accent - born in S England and lived there 'til I was 8 then moved to Northern Ireland until last year and now back in England. So mostly Northern Irish but a bit English too. Some people think I'm Canadian which is random!
Strangely enough I was talking to a Canadian man on NYE and I thought he was Irish :ohwell:0 -
This is the only video I have where you can hear me talk at around 36 seconds (the video is of my dog and cat.. Sad I know!) unfortunately if you 'YouTube' Nottingham Accents you get a bunch of chavs with the worst accent ever!!
OR if you can't be bothered to watch the video then I sound like Robin Hood just a tad higher pitched!0 -
Funny video Nikki cute pets!0

I love a guy with an accent. It takes the sexy factor and doubles it. I am especially found of German accents but any accent on a guy is wonderful!!!!!0
