buying a wii, what's best?

I have "My Personal Fitness Trainer" - it's a fairly basic game that takes you through exercise sessions combining aerobics, balance, strength building and whatnot, and also allows for "peripheral equipment" i.e. if you tell the game you have weights, your routine will incorporate them, or a gym ball, step, heart monitor. Even the basic workouts minus these things (I don't have them!) are good, there is variety and it actually works properly in warming you up>achieving peak heartrate>alternating between exercises and rest to achieve good results. I persoally enjoy the music, but it's just instrumental/beats, not pop music or known songs or anything, but this doesn't bother me. It's kinda like a workout dvd, no frills, but much more enjoyable!
And you can do yoga, and yes, it is real yoga, with full flowing movements, not just one pose after another I love this game - in fact I actually bought the wii to go with it lol (my last wii left with the ex - small price to pay!)
I only wish I could have more motivation so I could do it every day - I honestly love the workouts, but just have the problem of "getting around to it" - that's MY fault though, not the wii's!

ETA: You get full visual and descriptive instruction on each of the moves, so you always know how to do them right! Maya (your instructor) will also ask you how you're feeling each time, and throughout workouts, so that the level of motivation and difficulty of exercises given can be made appropriate. I love this - plus I can shout at her when she tells me to "work smart, work hard" Finally, Maya makes you remember to breathe and hold correct posture - it's amazing how far these little nudges go to help you get it right (and not pass out lmao!)0 -
Just dance

X Box Kinect! With the Wii, you are only tracking your hand movement... With the Kinect, you are forced to use more of your body and the motion tracker is much more accurate! Also, the games are better!
agreed ! agreed ! agreed !
I dont know much about xbox kinect but I HATE my wii. The only time I use it is when my 6 year old niece comes over and for netflix (which it is horrible at). The console is slow and there isnt' much in the way of games and half the time the remote doesn't seem to work right.
And I don't feel that I get that much of a workout using the wii. I have just dance and there is so much time in between the songs that I had to do jumping jacks just to keep my heart rate up AND it took me an hour to burn just over 100 calories. Moral of the story: Try out all your options before deciding on the wii0 -
wow! You all inspire me, way to come and and help! So from what I read it's looking like I want a balance board
What DON'T you like about the balance boards?
ps...family has voted on a wii.0 -
I also have Gold's Gym Cardio, which I haven't seenu roomed yet. I can get a pretty good burn going with that. Also, Jillian Michaels is a good workout, though not as much fun.

Zumba! And a friend of mine just told me about NFL Training Camp. Says it really kicks your butt.0

I have the Wii with the Wii Fit Plus. It is fun but OMG the Xbox 360 with Kinects is SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER. You actually have to move your entire body. Kinect sports, The biggest loser ultimate work out and Fruit Ninja kick my *kitten* every day, but they are soooo much fun!!!0

Wii Fit Plus...Zumba and definitely Just Dance 3!0

I have Wii Sports (comes with console) and got Wii Fit Plus & Zumba 2. There are many games you can use with the balance board, but Fit is nice because not everything uses the board (many yoga moves you don't need it). I also learned how to do many moves PROPERLY on it because it shows you where to balance your weight correctly. Then I moved on to Zumba & Zumba 2. I reccomend Zumba 2 as it is much more advanced graphically & has more options (beginner, moderate, & advanced). I'm in the market for Just Dance & possibly the Biggest Loser game. I've seen the Jillian Michael's games too, but haven't tried. My next "big" purchase will probably be Active 2.
Yes, getting the remote is a pain (I've actually sprung the remote out of the Zumba belt when it moved up after a squat type move), but I think it makes you work harder to achieve the points, technical points, & calories burned. Also, when using the balance board, remember not to JUMP when doing ski moves! One more thing, get an inexpensive yoga mat for when you use the board. I have tile floors & you can't wear shoes when using it. If I wear socks I slip unless I'm using the mat or some skid proof socks.0 -
Get the Xbox with Kinect. Much better all around. Get "Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2012" and the latest "Biggest Loser" games. There are also Zumba and Dance games available too.
I had a Wii, just got the Xbox, I like it A LOT better!!!0 -
I love my Wii! I've got Wii Fit plus with the balance board which I love. I use it everyday for the Body Test where you can weigh yourself and track your progress (my home scales aren't very accurate!) And all that talk about wii only monitoring your hand motion is crap because the board has a sensor too as well as some games that come with a leg sensor etc. I've also got Just Dance which is a fun way to dance off those calories. And I just bought Zumba 2 which comes with a sensor belt so it can monitor your hip movements - they've got killer workouts.0

EA Sports Active 2! That's all I have been doing for exercise consistently. It is amazing!0
-
Just dance is so fun, I hate dancing and I still love this game.0

I was playing Just Dance 3 over Christmas and it was so much fun and also gave me a good workout! You are up and down, moving your whole body. We had a lot of fun and got some cardio in.0

xbox is better... kinect is so much fun and a great cardio workout especially the rafting game. it's a great laugh and you burn more calories than you realize.0
-
Just Dance 1, 2 & 3. They are awesome. I play with my 6 year old and they have tons of songs and different difficulty levels. It's a work out. Definitely!!0

My absolute favorite exercise Wii game is NFL Training Camp. It uses the same sensors as EA Sports Active 2, which I also like a lot, but I give the edge to NFL, even though I'm not a football super fan. Part of it is that I play it with my 12 year old son, who is ultra competitive and loves to play it with me. He gets me out of bed to play early in the morning before he leaves for school. My son loves it because you can choose your fave NFL players as your workout buddies, and earn "pro shop" points to buy virtual gear from your favorite team. I love it because it's a great whole-body workout and goes by really fast!
I also just got Zumba 2, and it looks like it will become another favorite. Dance Dance Revolution 3 is quite good too--you can choose how intense a workout you want, and it has a good variety of songs. It's a real improvement over the previous two versions. Then there's good ol' Wii Fit Plus, which is a good one to have in your collection. Really, you can get an excellent workout with a variety of the games--as with anything, consistency is the key.0 -

EA Active 2 will kick your butt. Also on the Wii Fit, hit in Rhythm Boxing, it burns 90 calories in 10 minutes and you move both your arms and legs. I've had my Wii for 6 years, and the only thing I've had to replace was the Board when my morbidly obese cousin stomped on it hard, and cracked it, after I had it for 3 years with no problems.0 -
We have Zumba and Dance 3. We love them both. We only have two remotes but three of us do it at a time. Just move with the system. I do move my whole body because when I do get a chance to use the remote I would like a high score. Just put your whole body into it and have fun.0

i lost my first 40 pounds using the wii fit exclusivly for exercise. i love it! i weighed in on it every day, too and it really kept me motivated. i know weighing every day is not for everyone, but it tought me a lot about my body and how it responds to certian food. Have fun and good luck!0

WII fit and zumba for sure! love em both0

Wii sports and the Just Dance 2 or 3 video games! I am getting the balance board for my birthdayso I can't speak to that one. I always move around my living room while playing just like I'm playing real tennis or bowling (space permitting of course!). You can always just swing the racket but obviously won't burn as many calories. I just got Just Dance 2 for Christmas and it is awesome!!! I can go for a long period of time playing and not even realize how long I have gone! I say as long as they are "active" games you will have fun playing and that will encourage you to play more!
Have fun! :-)0 -
I love the Wii Fit Plus. It isn't an intense workout, but I'm not completely ready for an intense workout. LOL. I love the step aerobics and use it now as a warm up for other things. Also LOVE Zumba and Just Dance 3. Just glad no one is there to watch me dance.
I inherited a Jilian Michaels and Jenny McCarthy game from my mom when her Wii was ruined. Don't really like the Jillian game and have yet to try Jenny-on that one, you hook the "eye" up to the tv and don't use the hand controller.0 -
I have My Fitness Coach for Wii and I love it! It doesn't use the wii fit board or anything. You make your profile, put in your information, and it formulates a workout plan for you to follow. I also do the games such as tennis I'm looking into some more, such as Zumba, as soon as I have a little money saved up.0
