I had began to take my weight loss goal more seriously around the last week of December and from that point had been using livestrong to handle my caloric intake and expenditure values. But when I tried to use their counter on the go I found out you have to pay for it and it didn't have too many great reviews. I did see that someone said that myfitnesspal was a good option and so I got it and I like the place. I know use it as my main counter. So far I've lost 4 pounds since I last weighed myself, so I'm happy about that. However, I've found that now I feel like im becoming obsessed with caloric values and am scared now to eat. I don't want to eat too many calories and I try to eat a little more but so far I still eat under the 1200 calorie safe mark. What do you all suggest? What are some good ways to make sure you're not overeating with calories but are eating enough so that you don't starve?

Besides that I'm looking forward to finally losing the weight and keeping it off. I did it once before (in 2006-2008 I began at 198 pounds and got to 175 but then college started and from 2008-2011 I got back to 200 pounds).

So ,Hi yall I'm looking forward to making new friends here and having great support ^_^.

I'm in the exact same boat as you! I wish to lose the same amount as you this year so we can help eachother out :)

Keeping within the minimum calories is also a tricky thing for me too. I've got a diet high in protein so I rarely have an appetite. But I make myself eat the minimum because I know my body needs it. I snack on stuff like muesli bars and rice crackers because they're low in calories and can be filling.

I feel the same as you. Once I do get back on the diet boat, I eat far too little because I am scared and feel like it's the way to lose weight, no matter how much I read saying that you need to eat. I do not know how to get past that. Feel free to send me a friend request if you'd like to support each other! :) Also, I am scared of the scale.

yeah the only thing I really have done so far is cut out the bad snacks I usually like to eat (so chips here and there and cakes at dinner) so it seems that for a while now I have been in this "starvation mode" of eating less than 1200 calories and I just have increased the amount of cardio I do and alternate the other days with some strength training. My mother eats the same way (except she eats less than I do) and I don't usually feel like I'm starving/am hungry but now that I'm aware I try to eat a little more but it feels like I'm stuffing myself and the only way I see it easier to even hit that target is to figure out how to make breakfast lunch and dinner at least 400 calories each or just wake up earlier and have a small breakfast, then a snack, then lunch, then a snack, then dinner, but that seems like way too much work and time for eating and sometimes I'm too busy to just eat like that -.-. Oh well I'll work to figure out.

For me it's not that I've eaten less, I've just cut out juice and snacks and I also at dinner now haven't had 2nd helpings but I have been trying now to have more seconds just to meet that minimum of 1200 calories, but yeah I do feel a bit scared to eat because I don't want to gain everything back. The scale for me is 50/50, I'm happy when it says a lesser number than it did before but sad if it shows weight gain so I usually try to weigh myself once a week at the same time to get a stable number since day to day weight fluctuates.
  • Hello all!

I can totally relate to what everyone is saying and feel like I am in the same boat as y'all. My short term goal is to run a 5K in a few months and long term goal for the next 12-15 months is to lose 50 lbs and keep it off!!! I didn't start packing on the weight until college (so within the last 2 years) and realized near the end of 2011 that it was becoming a serious problem and I needed to do something about it... and NOW.

Anyway, we're all trying to do the same thing which is get healthier, stay fit and look better. I want to be around on this earth for a while and its time to get serious about my health, fitness, and life in general. Good luck to all of you and I hope to hear updates as time progresses!!

    Take care,

    Kellie
  • I completely understand how you feel, it's a very good thing to be aware of how many calories everything is so you can realize how fattening foods are but the downfall to calorie counting is you become a complete "crazed food nazi" as my sister calls me. How I deal with the situation you're dealing with now is I plan my meals for the next day using the calorie counter and that way I'm not guessing while I'm eating or feeling guilty because I think i might've possibly gone over my amount, this really helps. If you also tend to stray a little, because I know everyday is different and there will be times you'll go over the amount, say to yourself, "Okay, I had a bad day, it happens, tomorrow, I'll do better and work out even harder." Hope this helps! Good luck with your weight loss goal!

Thanks for the good luck wishes and that tip! It sounds like it can be helpful. I'll try that for the next few days and see what happens, i think it would also help if I get up earlier and have an earlier breakfast so that I can have the snack and lunch thing so I can have a little more calories and be at a good level so I'm not under the goal by 8pm. Maybe I could also begin drinking some juice again.

Thanks Kellie for your post here. Good luck to you too. From your forum badge it looks like you have 49 pounds left to go, yay ^_^. Good luck also with the marathon, that would be super awesome to participate in one of those someday. Maybe one day I'll train for one. =3
