What do you do?

What do you do when you eat something not in the database and you can't find its nutritional info anywhere?

I ask because I'm going out to eat at a brand new restaurant tonight for my friend's birthday (and I do mean brand new - tonight is the grand opening). There is a menu online but no nutritional info. I'm trying to figure out what to have before I even go but it's hard when I have no idea how many calories anything has.

Do you just estimate in this situation? I'm so bad at estimation :/ I was looking at the caesar salad, but based on other restaurants, even that could have anywhere from 250-750 calories, you know? And I want to be able to log it because I've gotten really good at logging everything and I don't want to break that habit.

  • try to break the recipe down the best you can...and then overestimate. If it's a chicken dish, enter the chicken, the sauce, the pasta, the veg all separately, don't be afraid to ask the cook to make things baked/no butter no cream sauces...order veg steamed/salt and butter on the side.
