A discouraging realization

I thought I was closing in on my goal weight (7 pounds to go) but I'm starting to realize I am not anywhere NEAR where I want to be, I don't look like I want to yet and I'm starting to realize I may have another 15 lbs to lose before I get there.. It's kind of discouraging because I've come so far and 15 lbs is going to take a while... I'm not going to give up or anything but I know 15 lbs is going to take me at least 4 or 5 more months and it just seems like so far away

:/

  • From your picture you're looking great! Look at where you came from and gain some perspective. I've lost ten pounds here and need about 12 more. :grumble: However, from the looks at your diary, I think you may need to incorporate more raw veggies and fruits. My opinion is, see where you are and realize it's not going to be as hard as you think. You may want to tone up, if that's your desire, just keep going at it and it the weight will fall of. :flowerforyou:

It must be just about impossible to know in advance what your final goal is when you start. I know I reassessed several times along the way. You're just fine tuning your goal based on experience. You can do it!

I had a moment like that the other day. I had bought some 30" waist Levi 's as my waist is down to 31" I thought they fit in a month. They got here and are hipster style so fasten lower down than what I'm used to ie. around my tummy which is still 35" I can just get in them but they won't come together.

I was disappointed there's no way I'll fit in them next month, but maybe for next winter instead. It is disappointing to find you aren't as far along as you thought . I've now got loads of work to do on tummy to get that down to 30" to fit in those 30W jeans which actually fasten just above my hips!

However I was encouraged again this morning to find another pound had come off already unexpectedly, so hang in there, something else may happen that will raise your spirits again!

But look at how great you look in comparison to your starting point! And every single day during that 4 or 5 months it takes you'll look and feel slightly better than the day before. You'll be at your goal before you know it.

Sometimes the changes we went to see will happen without losing (much) more weight. Focus on nutrition and getting exercise with a tiny calorie deficit, and you'll see changes.

It's so hard not to get discouraged.

You know what works for me when I get in this state of mind? I take a minute to think about the number that i've already lost! rather than what I need to do. Looking at your number currently lost, that's something to be very proud of! good job!

also to take the extra step, i often try-on some clothes that I used to wear at the start of my weight loss. they're guaranteed to be looser! and it feels so great to have that comparison and stare at the mirror and wonder "how did i used to fill this material up?!". i do this one often lol. of course it's good to fit into stuff that is smaller. but if you're working towards fitting into something and you're feeling discouraged.. it might be safer to fit into something from the past rather than something for the future until you know you're in a good mindset to be okay if you don't quite fit into it yet.

IT's not so bad. I did the same. My original goal was 135 lbs, but when I got to 140 lbs I realised that was nowhere near. Revised to 130, still wasn't happy, 125 and I am still not, so I have just revised my goal again to 120 lbs.

We all obviously rely on the magic number of a scale, but just remember that you can look at several people who weigh the same but look very different based on how much muscle they have. Your goal weight might still work for you but maybe you can then focus on maintenance and working on muscle development. Just my two cents! Plus, you have come such a long way - that is incredible and very inspiring! :)

Ignore the scale and start lifting heavy weights. I did that after I got to my first goal weight and my body looks less flabby and more toned as a result

You do look great tho. Great job on your success thus far.
  • thanks everyone! I just thought that at a BMI of 22.5 I would be happy but now I'm seeing that I need to not care so much about the number and go until I feel comfortable and happy.. I just wish it didn't take so long! haha
