How to strengthen ligaments and tendons??

I am really keen to learn some exercises to strengthen ligaments and tendons, particularly those in the foot and lower leg/knee to prevent running injuries. I know muscle and bone strength and important, but am seeking any information on how to strengthen the ligaments and tendons that are often injured in beginning runners.

  • The only luck I've had on this personally, is easing into running really gently... which is frustrating... I was getting agonising shin splints. Maybe pilates?
  • Doing the correct stretches before and after working out.

    Building muscle helps, but is hard if you already have an injury. Use braces or strapping the affected area to help keep it in place while exercising.

    I get tendonitis in my foot, my doctor said take ibuprofen and make sure i stretch it out really well. It was so painful i couldnt walk properly for nearly two months! This all came about from trying to run lol
