Hi there! I'm a newbie to MFP and I just recently purchased a hand-held blender for smoothie purposes. Now, I just need some recipes! Do you have some favorites to share?

Thanks so much.

One peach, 3 strawberries. Half cup of low fat low cal vanilla yogurt, and a few ice cubes with a splash of juice
  • Here is a recipe for a protein shake that I've been making that's really yummy and good for you! I put the brands which I bought in parentheses. I got my ingredients from Whole Foods. It calculated @ 298 calories per serving with the brands I used.

    Tone It Up Protein Shake:

    * 1 scoop whey protein (Tera's Whey in Bourbon Vanilla)
    * 1T organic whole flaxseed (Spectrum Essentials)
    * 3/4 cup organic frozen berries (365 Everyday) (strawberry, blueberry, blackberry blend)
    * 1/2 frozen or fresh banana
    * 1 cup unsweetened coconut milk beverage (So Delicious Dairy Free)

    Blend & Enjoy!

  • Yum!! These all sound great! Thanks!
  • Can you substitute frozen peach slices for a fresh peach?
  • Try: 3/4 cup Almond Milk (Almond Breeze) - try the Original (60 cal.)
1/2 cup 0% M.F. Greek Yogourt (Vanilla, if you like)
1/2 cup frozen Blackberries, Blueberries or whatever Berries you prefer.

Simple and easy and you can adjust the ingredients to your likes.

  • Sweet Potatoe Shake

    1 scoop Whey powder
1 cooked sweet potatoe about 5 inches or 5-6oz
1 cup of fat free vanilla yogurt (I use light and fit 80 Cal)
    shake of cinnamon
    shake of ginger
    shake of cloves
    shake of nutmeg
    6 ice cubes
a drop of creamer such as sugar free hazelnut or french vanilla, less than a tsp (this is just for taste)
    1/4 cup of skim milk

    blend until smooth

should make almost two full servings, probably about 16-20 oz total when you are done

we have also substituted the sweet potatoe for canned pumpkin but it's not as sweet.

Calorie count is estimated only from research on the web

    1 sweet potatoe 6 oz 135 cal
1 scoop of Whey powder 130 cal
1 Light and Fit vanilla yogurt 80 cal
shake of cinnamon (less than 1/2 a tsp) 3 cal
shake of ginger (less than 1/2 a tsp) 3 cal
shake of cloves (less than 1/2 a tsp) 4 cal
shake of nutmeg (less than 1/2 a tsp) 6 cal
drop of creamer sugar of fat free (less than a tsp) 13 cal
1/4 cup of skim milk 45 cal

416 calories total 2 servings 208 caloires per serving, extremly filling

This shake will taste like pumpkin or sweet potatoe pie
  • Did even think to add PB.. Great idea, thanks:tongue:

bump.. some of these look good

i have a vitamix and my morning smoothie/drink is as follows

    1 banana
    1 kiwi
    1 granny smith apple
    1-2 cups of spinich
    ice
    cold water.

its really good - and about 250 calories - you could use less kiwi/banana/apple to make it smaller -but it makes about a 16 ounce drink.

This is hardly a recipe but....

Buy frozen fruit form the supermarket so you always have a supply and soya milk is full of goodness try switching if you can.

handful of blueberries and raspberries (half defrosted)
    unsweetened soya milk
scoop of protein powder (strawberry is my choice)

Blend and you have a chilled energy packed smoothie!

    2-4 T of Peanut Butter

I make mine with juice (approx 1 cup, usually apple but can vary by your own taste), frozen banana pieces (approx 1 cup 2" chunks), and frozen fruit (whatever kind you like). I don't add water, ice, yogurt, or anything else - maybe some protein powder now and then (I like Rainbow Light).

This is how I make my very simple smoothie in my Magic Bullet blender:

Yoplait Light - Vanilla Yogurt (Fat Free) , 8 oz
Ocean Spray - Diet Blueberry Pomegranate Juice, 8 fl oz (1cup)
Strawberries (Frozen) Whole Fruit, 1 cup

    Calories 185 Carbs 40 Fat 0 Protein 8

Most of the calories is the yogurt. Because the strawberries are frozen, I don't have to add ice. I love those Ocean Spray Diet Juices - only 5 calories and it makes me feel like I'm getting a sugar fix.

    My daily morning smoothie:

    1T flax seed
    2 C spinach
    1 banana (frozen)
    1/2 C blueberries
    1 C almond milk

Sometimes I'll add another fruit if there's a sale on the frozen ones or if I see some good reduced produce that I can freeze. Sometimes I add an ice cube or two.

Here's my favorite healthy smoothie that I adapted from Dr. Jung's Clean Program (the Gwynneth Paltrow cleanse) that incorporates protein and fiber. I always keep a bag of organic frozen berries from Costco, Trader Joe's or Wholefoods in my freezer.

    Mixed Berry Smoothie

1 c. Nonfat Milk (or Light Almond Milk for lower cal or if your lactose intolerant)
    1/2 c. Mixed berries
1 heaping tbsp Vanilla Protein Powder (Nutribiotic Organic)
1 level tbsp Acacia Fiber (Now Foods)
1 -2 packets Splenda or Nutiva natural sweetener (optional)
    3 ice cubes

I'm on a HUGE smoothie kick right now! I'm still experimenting with new ingredients and getting ideas from MFP. My two key ingredients I purchased to use are a protein powder (for after workouts) and ground flax seed.

This is what I had this morning. If you like chocolate and berries together, try this....

Oh So Berry Chocolate Delight: (This was so decadent and yummy I about fell over)

1 Cup Soy Slender Chocolate Milk (no sugar added)
1/2 Cup of Mixed Frozen Berries
1 Cup of sliced fresh strawberries
1 TBP of ground flax seed (optional)
*I think I used a little ice, but I am not positive.
