Hi everyone! Im going to be hitting the gym today and start attending regularly ....im just not sure what to start with. I am looking to lose another 40 to 50 lbs. Should i just stick with cardio or do weights as well....any advice would be great. Thanks in advancee

Do both.............and remeber to stretch AFTER you workout. good luck. Cardio to get your hear rate up and weights to build muscle. Muscle burns more calories.0

you need to do both! I do cardio 6/7 days a week and weights 2/3 times. You need to tone those muscles and work burning the fat off so when its gone you have nice lean muscles to show0

Ok sounds good! What do most ppl do first? Cardio or weights? I was thinking 40 mins cardio and we have this circuit at the gym that takes about 30 mins0

On my days that I do both cardio and strength....I prefer to do cardio first. My body is already nice and warmed up. Plus, I can really push myself and not have to dread the cardio part afterwards.0

Hi! You and I are losing about the same amount of weight. Here is what I am doing:
1. 20 Minutes of Interval (adjust incline/intensity every two minutes) workout. I use the treadmill and the elliptical for this.
2. Do weights, as well -- a push, a pull, an ab, a leg press -- don't be afraid of the kettleballs! Watch the people with a trainer. You can literally follow whatever workout they are doing fairly close without the cost of the trainer! The important thing is to start off slow -- 2 sets of 10 each with a 30-second rest period in between. I use the 30-seconds to stretch out whatever muscel I just worked.
3. Diet. I am doing a 65% Fat, 25% Protein, and 10% Carb diet. So far I am losing 1 pound a day! It is pretty restrictive, but is healthy. It was prescribed to me by a Licensed Dietician/Nutritionist. After 4 weeks on the plan, "carb up" on the weekend to refill your glycerone levels.

All of the above advice is sensible. If you're not sure what you're doing why not sign up for a few sessions with a qualified and insured Personal Trainer at your gym so that you get some basic advice.

As some very clever people on MFP have pointed out, doing cardio makes you look good with clothes on but strength training makes you look good nakkked (sic).

It can be intimidating using the free weights at first but a lot of gyms offer orientation sessions that introduce you to all of the equipment so take advantage of them if they're offered. There is also a New Rules...group you can join under the Groups section of the Community tab.0 -

I do weight training first and then cardio. I mix the cardio up each day....either stationary bike or interals on the ARC or the treadmill0

Definitely both. If you choose to do both in the same day, do weights first, then cardio.0
