Advice please? Mini binges?

Options
Hello...

Just seeking some advice regarding these mini binges that have been more frequently occurring ... By more freuently I mean maybe once a week or so, and they aren't big, generally around 500 calorie. Sometimes on foods that I wouldn't usually crave or touch like chips/cookies, other times on food I crave like chocolate, and sometimes I just eat bites of loads of different foods until I manage to stop myself.. Sometimes it's followe by purging...

I have had these mini binge/purge episodes in the past, maybe once every two months or so but lately they've become more regular.

I guess I'm just wondering if the binges are accruing because of my lack of will power? Or out of control apitite(recently started taking pill), or if I've been resisting too much?

My diary is open... Thanks!

The fact you are PURGING and admitting to purging - You need to seek medical and psychological help..... This website is not prepared to handle food-related disorders nor do they condone eating disorders.

    Please get help immediately

I agree with the previous poster.

My best friend and former roommate was eating disordered. I know that you might think that it's not a big deal and it's under control, but you really need to seek out some help.

 MFP probably isn't the best place to be if you're struggling with an eating disorder.

Thanks for your replies and concern.

I don't feel like I have an eating disorder because I don't often purge. If do its more of punishment, rather than trying to compensate or the extra calories

My binges also aren't full blown.

For example tonight's was 2, 1/2 slices of garlic bread and 3/4 of a piece of a healthiefied cake that I had made a few days ago.

I often have dark chocolate during the day as a treat, which leads me to think I'm just slacking off, not giving into cravings?

I agree that you should seek help. Even if the purging is infrequent.

I had a look at your diary, and there is a lot of sugary sweet stuff on there, which may not be helping. Fruit sounds healthy, and of course it has benefits over eating chocolate, but at the end of the day it's still packed with sugar. I don't have an eating disorder but if I eat a lot of sweet things, I get very hungry and I get cravings. Honestly if I was eating what you're eating, I'd last a couple of days and then scarf down everything in sight in a fit of hunger.

Do try cutting out all the sugar and fruit for a week, and replacing it with salads and vegetables, good filling stuff like cabbage and celery and peppers, teamed with grilled fish or chicken. If being full of good healthy stuff doesn't help you, then yes you might need to seek advice about an eating disorder.

Meanwhile, eating an extra 500 calories one day a week isn't going to significantly hinder your weight loss, so if you do, just forget it and move on. No need to "punish" yourself.

Good luck, it must be hard to be worried about that.

Like others have said, this is an eating disorder. Whether it's done once a week or once a day doesn't change the fact that this type of behaviour is an eating disorder. Many people with them don't think they are doing anything wrong.

Again like others have said, it would be in your best interest to go see a doctor and get some help for this eating disorder before it gets worse.

MyFitnessPal strongly recommends that anyone suffering from the symptoms of Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia, or Compulsive eating make use of the resources offered by the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. You may reach the ANAD hotline by phone in the US: 847-831-3438 (Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, Central Time) or on the web at http://www.anad.org/site/anadweb/

Like others have said it doesn't have to be every day or every week, please seek advice on coping strategies when you feel like you want to binge or purge.
