Is eating breakfast a must?

Is there any way to kick start your metabolism without eating breakfast? I really hate eating in the morning. I have tried a few times since joining this site and all it does is make me extreemly hungry for the rest of the day...

Im exactly the same, cant eat in the mroning. Apart if i go for a run before work then i can eat my cereals.0

You can't kickstart your metabolism with breakfast anyway. So eat when you feel like it. Your body can't tell time.0

I usually fast until at least midday, hasn't hindered me at all0

It starts your metabolism burning for the day, so yup, you should try to do it... it makes you hungry when you eat for that very reason.. it's a good thing!! What about a protein shake or a smoothie if you don't actually want to eat?0

I'm not a big morning eater either. They have a breakfast shake called an "instant breakfast." It has tons of vitamins and minerals but it doesn't leave you with the "super-full" feeling. I'm sure it's not quite as good as a real breakfast, but i think it's a decent option.0

I had a tough time getting breakfast in, too, for a while. I'm OK now, but same problem. I would be far hungrier if I ate breakfast. I eat more small meals now, though. And that helps. I'll be eating something again in a couple hours anyway. Have you tried a breakfast milkshake?0

Breakfast is the most important fuel for your day. Try a protein drink instead or maybe oatmeal with berries or even a breafast bar. I eat small meals and snacks , something every couple hours0

I don't like eating in the morning either, but I usually grab a granola bar or something just to kick start me mentally. I feel sluggish until I eat, but not really hungry.0

Eating breakfast is key.
Master that or the risk of failure is high.0 -
I don't think so. I drink about a liter of water /4 cups every day when I wake up, and as long as I'm adequately hydrated I'm fine. I bring snacks to work so if I get hungry I eat and if I'm not hungry I don't force it.0

I used to eat breakfast every day. I realized that I was hungry at night so I started saving my breakfast calories for dinner. I essentially eat all my calories for dinner.0

Actually, it sort of can. It reacts differently depending on what your habits are like and the time of day (sunlight).0 -
If you can't eat, I would suggest a protein shake. Drinking your breakfast works just as well.0

Suck it up.

actually thats not true..not about breakfast..who cares if you skip breakfast, but yes body can tell time..for instance the body during the early morning hours goes through a phenomenon known as "twilight" where bloodsugars start to raise and insulin has a tendency to increase to make up for that difference..just wanted to correct you sunkisses .0

If you don't like to eat breakfast, try a GNC Total Lean shake. I have to do that sometimes because I get too busy and don't have time to prepare a meal. I will get all the vitamins and protein that I need on the go. You really need to have something to burn off in the morning. Good luck.0

I don't think it's a must but I've been making myself eat a bigger breakfast (200ish calories is a big breakfast for me) and I find that my hunger is no longer insatiable during the rest of the day. When I don't eat breakfast, I'm fine eating just lunch, but when it comes dinner time, my hunger just won't go away. Anyway, it's worth a shot to see how you feel during the day when you do eat breakfast.0

Time is a human construct, as is breakfast. Your body can recognize things that occur in nature. Who's next? *flexing*0 -
If you aren't hungry in the morning then don't eat. It's not going to hinder your weight lose. Calories in Vs. Calories out. Eat when you want as long as your within your calories you'll lose the weight.0

No. You don't have to eat breakfast. Your body isn't stupid. If you aren't hungry, and it messes with the rest of your day, that would be a good clue to skip it. There are lots and lots of people who will give you a different opinion, but I've seen WAY too many people lose weight, AND be fit without every eating breakfast.0

I never used to eat in the morning until I started exercising. I find by having a calorie deficit day after day and doing vigorous exercise each day after work, I'm actually hungry when I wake up.
But, I have a rule not to eat if I'm not hungry (easier to follow some days than others). But, if I have a big meal for dinner and am not hungry in the morning, I don't worry about it. I just toss an apply and a jar of PB in with my normal lunch and eat that when I DO feel hungry.0 -
I like to sleep in, so on my days off I skip breakfast. But if I have to work in the morning, I NEVER leave the house without breakfast - or else I feel like a weak piece of crap all day long, no matter what! I always think that you should at least have a shake or a V8 in the morning, but what's important is that you do what works for yourself!0

not true..we have a circadian clock, which has evolved from the pineal gland..it what lets us tell time consciously but it also keep our non conscious activities in sync as well0

Thanks for proving my point. Let's go back to talking about soup and dumping friends now.0 -
Breakfast is definitely NOT a must. I used to work 1-7 and would sleep until noon and then eat lunch at two, have a snack around five and then dinner at seven with a snack later on. I had this work schedule for six months and lost 12lbs because of it. It was awesome.0

Yes! The word breakfast literally mean "breaking fast". when you go to sleep, your body goes into a state of fast, if you dont eat shortly after waking to break that fast, you'll stay in a fast, which means storing...and your body doesn't store muscle when you fast, its stores fat. but don't worry if you're not a morning eater, you dont have to have a massive meal...a piece of toast with peanut butter...or just plain toast...is enough to do the job...and if you keep doing that, believe me you'll get to the point where breakfast will be easy and enjoyable.0

and some people may say it isn't...but some people may not have a slow metabolism...lucky them0
