New Running Shoes

One of the highlights of this whole weight loss progress has been my ability to budget funds for new running shoes. My most recent pair, which were New Balance, had been with me through thick and thin and were beginning to "talk" to me when I ran (the sole was flapping!).
I purchased a pair of Reebok RealFlex (black suede): http://shop.reebok.com/US/product?modelId=EF577&articleId=J87173
and K-Swiss Tubes (sunrise): http://www.kswiss.com/item/38.32/92316-060/Women/Footwear_Running/Tubes_Run_100/Silver_Gator_Orange.html I will say that the pair I purchased were all orange, which is really cool, but I had trouble finding that exact pair on their site so this is the closest.
If you are able to set aside some funds for new kicks, I highly recommend it. The first thing I wanted to do was run out of the store and show them and my abilities off! I'm also curious about brands that everyone works out in.

When I was a marathon runner, I tried many brands of shoes... Adidas has always been the one that balanced comfort and survivability. But I think it's different for everyone.0

yep, I can only do Nikes - and tend to stick with a specific type of Nikes too
but i bought two new pairs of runners yesteday too and am very excited0 -
I pretty much only roll in Brooks at this point. Got a pair of Pure Connects for Christmas and love them. $90ish ever 400 miles or so is a small price for not injuring yourself and spending more at the doctor and phys. therapist.0

my latest running shoes are saucony grid ignitions. i tend to naturally underpronate when running so i went to a local running store to get a pair properly fitted....what an amazing difference! so to build onto your original post.... definitely set aside a budget for new sneakers ... and also invest in getting yourself a pair that are actually fitted to you!! it's really worth it!!0

I use Brooks as well. If you haven't had somebody versed in running shoes look at your old ones....do it. Certain types of shoes are designed for certain gaits or strides. Looking at the wear pattern on your old running shoes will tell a story. I over-pronate and therefore, get shoes designed for that (no arch support).0

I've just had to buy some new running shoes as I've developed an unbearable shin splint which has put me out of action for a week or so. I decided the time was right to purchase some more expensive trainers and I went to Sweatshop (www.sweatshop.co.uk) in Brighton. The salesman had me running on the treadmill to look at how I run and he recommended Brooks stability trainers as I overpronate on my left foot. There is an online sale on now if anybody is still looking to purchase trainers. I can't wait to take mine out for a test drive now!0 -
I had a gait analysis done and I run in Asics gel nimbus 13s. I'm only in my second week of training but I love them so far.0

check out the above article, it will explain everything waaay better than i can! but it has to do with what part of your foot has more impact....i underpronate...which means that most of my impact is on the outside of my feet....it's really easy for me to roll my ankle without proper support. some people overpronate, so their impact is seem most on the inside of the feet, and then there's people who are neutral and experience equal weight distribution. you can get different types of sneakers that are best made for the type of pronation that you have! i always bought the wrong sneakers and would find that even after a few minutes of jogging, i had certain calf muscles that would awkwardly burn (not normal running burn) .... since getting fitted for sneakers, I no longer experience that! awesome!0 -
Hi, I am also doing the Couch to 5k - it's fantastic!
In simple terms, pronation means that your foot rolls either inwards or outwards as you run.
If your foot rolls inward you overpronate (as I do) and under pronating is if you run on the outside of your foot. I hope that helps!0 -
I used to use New Balance, but they stopped making the shoe I liked in my size (17). I now use Asics and I really like them...It is actually time for me to get another pair actually. I under pronate a bit also and am larger guy so it makes finding a durable shoe a battle sometimes.0

I started couch to 5K 2 weeks ago and got myself fitted for a pair of running shoes at the weekend. Apparently my right foot has normal pronation but I overpronate with my left foot. After trying a fair few pairs from different manufacturers I've ended up with Asics GT-2170s.
What a difference the right pair of shoes makes! I had a couple of small niggles when I was out before, particularly in my left knee, but they are gone completely now. Bring it on!0 -

Just purchased some Fila and they are the best shoes I've had in a long time. The shoe makes all the difference of running 2 miles or 5.0

I run in Brooks. They are by far the most comfortable for running that I have found. I have Nike, NB, and Asics also, but I don't run in them. I have tried and can tell a huge difference in support and comfort. I use the other brands to just kick around in.0

Holy smokes - I used to work at a shoe store 11 years ago - and we would normally get one size 15 in each new shoe they stocked us with... and maybe a 16 would randomly show up - So I can only imagine the difficulty in finding great shoes in person.0 -
I have been an Asics Kayano fan for years now (and are good for under pronating) . The newer ones run a bit larger than the older versions though. So make sure you check out how they fit before purchasing!
They are rather expensive... but I am getting in the habit of waiting til the new versions come out and purchase the previous version that normally go on sale.
You can find the Kayano 17's now online as low as 79.00... they were 144.00 when i bought them.0 -
I run in Brooks Ariels because I need the motion control and I love them. However, I purchased these after having my run analyzed at a running store, which I highly recommend. I believe that some brands are better for flat footed folks like myself while others work for those with high arches.0
