So I have a bad case of sweet tooth and it always gets me in the end.

I know moderation is a good element, but when I have multiple cravings throughout the day for various sweets (chocolate, ice cream, ect), I'd prefer to have something healthy to satisfy that.

What's a good-for-you alternative to nomming not-so-great for you snacks?

  • I'm in the same boat. I eat a lot of fruit, yogurt, and I eat vegan chocolate truffles from my friends shop. One per day is pretty healthy.
  • To help my chocolate craving I eat fit and active 100 chocolate chip thin crisps & I also dream chocolate weight loss shakes,
They seem to help my sweet tooth.

Hershey's nuggets. Only 50 calories each. Break one in half and let it melt...do not chew. One (or two) will totally satisfy me and break the craving and it's not a diet food...it's actual real chocolate

    Frozen fruit is fantastic!
Also, slice a banana in half and put a few chocolate chips in. Wrap in tin foil, put it in the oven for a while and enjoy!
  • Thanks! I'll be sure to try some of these!

I found this on another blog...I LOVE cheesecake, but it doesn't love me back. Instead, I bought low fat graham crackers, top with light chream cheese and sugar free preserves. 2 crakers are 220 calories. It is sooooooo good and satisfies my sweet tooth quite nicely. Good luck.

Hershey Kisses! They only have like 22 calories per kiss, I think a serving is between 6 and 9 of them. Pop one in your mouth when you get that craving and let it melt, don't just chew it.

Extra Desserts flavored gum - my new fav is the Apple Pie...there are so many now that you can pretty much nip any craving in the bud. I also have found that if it's REALLY a bad craving day at the office - if I have a Diet Root Beer and drink it really slowly, it seems to help. I actually set it next to my water and sip the water in between the soda...it works for me - good luck to you!!:flowerforyou:

Plain greek yogurt with 2 tsp brown sugar mixed in. Tastes a lot like cookie dough.
  • Roasted almonds with cinnamon! It tastes like christmas!

Granola bars help me also :)
  • I chew gum or eat a square of Godiva or Ghirrardeli dark chocolate - only about 60 calories and very rich! I also like to drink crystal light a few times a day instead of plain water. It seems to keep the sweet tooth at bay :) Sometimes, I slice up an apple, put zero calorie spray butter on it, then top it with cinnamon and splenda or stevia, and let it cook in the oven. Tastes like apple pie filling.
  • Luna bars are also made especially for women and the calories content is alot less that a candy bar plus it fills you for a few hours.

I am loving you for this idea. I love love cheese cakes but haven't had one since I started my weight loss journey. will try this soon on low fat grahams. Thanks a ton.

I eat Dove dark chocolate (42 cals a piece) and edy's 1/2 fat chocolate fudge brownie ice cream (120 cal)...which is amazing. I refused dessert pizza at a buffet the other day for my ice cream when I got home. I also make deals with myself, like if I eat this candybar, then I have to work out for 30 minutes. I never deprive myself, and that's what has keeped me going for over a year.

Emerald Cocoa Roast dark chocolate almonds. YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • I am a choco-holic. Even though I've worked out my whole life, and tried to only have chocolate on weekends, I always Way over indulged, and blew all my hard work for the week. I recently found chocolate protein drinks at Sams club. Premier Protein. Only 160 cals, 30 grams protein, only 1 sugar & 5 carbs. I have one for a snack btween meals and 1 a my night time snack if I have craving after dinner. I have not had Any sugar since Jan 2nd and do not miss it. These drinks are yummy and fill you up & keep you satisfied b/c of all the protien and it makes you feel like you are cheating every day when you aren't. Right now Im unable to workout b/c of a few rotated discs.. but Ive still managed to lose 7 lbs since Jan 1st. Good luck!
  • Girl you're preaching to the choir! Lol I have a sweet tooth too and sometimes it gets really hard to resist so lately I've been trying some relatively low calorie sweet snack ideas:

Chips Ahoy Thin Crisps, Oreo Thin Crisps, Lorna Doone Shortbread Cookie Crisps 100-Calorie Packs- Variety Box (Found at Sam's Club or Costco)

Mars Mini's Chocolate Mix (Sam's Club or Costco- has Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers, Midnight Milky Way, Twix minis- NOT fun size)- if you eat one of each (5 pieces total) that's 210 cal or you can pick and choose for only 43 cal each!

Ferrero Rocher Balls- 3 pieces for 220 calories or 1 piece for 73 calories

Weight Watchers Giant Chocolate Fudge Ice Cream Bar- 100 calories!

Weight Watchers Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich- 140 calories

A piece of toast (any bread, I prefer Aunt Millie's whole grain white- 50 cal) w/2Tbsp Nutella (200 cal)- 250 calories

A piece of toast w/1 Tbsp Pure Honey (60 cal)- 110 calories

Nestle Tollhouse Chocolate Chip Cookies (Break and Bake- 2 Cookies)- 180 calories

**NOTE** These are not the healthiest options with regards to carbs, fats, etc. but if you eat them according to serving size (or even less than the serving size if you can) you should be fine. Remember, dieting is all about eating in MODERATION. Eat what you want and be happy but just don't go overboard :).. and don't deprive yourself of anything because it will only make you want to binge later. Oh and make sure you log everything, it really helps!!

    GOOD LUCK! :))
  • i eat sugar free jelly ( jello ) when i fancy a sweet thing x its only 8 cals per 1/4 of a pack x
