Hello!
So times are tough and I have a vacation to pay for by this summer, so the gym is just not in the budget at this time. What are some suggestions for working out at home? I own a treadmill and some hand weights. Any ideas on how to not get burnt out with the same routine each time I work out! Please and Thank you !!

Hey! Good question.
I actually just finished up some push-ups, crunches and some dips. No weights or gym needed at all. I travel for work, so I also picked up some resistance bands that fit in my backpack. They are great. Variable resistance, and I can set them up for about 5-6 exercises, depending on my motivation. And they cost less than a month at a gym.

I am also broke and have to work out at home. I have two words for you: Belly Dancing!!
It is sooo much fun and it requires no more equipment than your body! You can do it at home, there are some good instructional videos on youtube. I used to take classes when I was younger and I got back into it when I decided I wanted to loose weight, don't let my ticker put you off though- it really does work wonders quickly and efficently... and in my opinion, it gives better results than general work outs because you are working all kinds of muscles right in the "pooch" area, hips and rib cage (plus a whole lot of other muscles, like neck muscles required to do a proper head slide) I actually lost 8lbs but recently gained 5 back because of a bad eczema break out that made me have to quit working out for a while. Anywhoo, give it a shot!0 -
I have trouble sticking to a routine so I use workout videos. I have a few- Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred, Ripped in 30... that I go between. They don't cost much and you can mix them up, add on, increase weigh etc. to keep yourself working hard. Good luck!0

I'm on a tight budget as well, so no gym for me either. I work out t home with DVDs - I started with Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred a couple of years ago, and now I think I have seven of her DVDs. Some are as short as 20 minutes (such as 30 Day Shred), others are about 40 - 50 (Banish Fat Boost Metabolism). Some use hand weights, some are more cardio and just use your body weight (push ups, lunges, etc), so there's good variety for me in the various DVDs. You can pick them up at Target or Costco - Target had them for $9 recently, and Costco had 4 titles for $7.99 each.
I've head Bob Harper's DVDs are good too, and that he's even tougher than Jillian :noway: but I haven't tried his yet. Many moons ago I was a big Tae Bo fan - I still see the newer DVDs on the shelves at the stores - always loved Billy's workouts, so should try them again.

i have a treadmill, free weight, and exercise bike. i use the bike the most in the winter. during the spring / summer / fall, i walk.
i also do push ups and situps.
i installed a pull up bar, also, but that is an exercise that i find difficult, so i tend to avoid it. have to work on that.0 -
The Jillian Michaels DVDs are so cheap I would recommend picking up a couple of them. The 30 Day Shred has 3 different workouts with progressive difficulty. My wife has been using it and gets a great workout.

I like to jump-rope and hula hoop. If It's too cold to go outside (like it has been) I pretend I'm using them by simply mimicking the motions! Both are very good work outs that burn calories and fat in short amounts of time (plus hula hooping is good for your belly). Not to mention, they're fun!0
