Weight loss comes down to calories in vs calories out.
I burn about 100 cals in 10 mins crosstrainer/bike/stepper, but I burn 150 in 10 mins running (not even that fast - 7.5kmh). Add intervals or incline to that any burn will go up even more! Over an hours workout that's another 300 calories so will definetly help with weight loss :)

Depends on what you eat! No exercise will help you lose weight unless you also watch your calories.

I really want to be able to run a 5k and not have to stop and walk.. I have had 3it knee surgery. But with all the exercising that im doing know, I don't have any trouble with my knee.

I am limiting my calories to 1800 and I burn about 400-575 calories doing the C25K program. I am on week 3 right now, and it's kicking my bum! My burn for the day is around 3100-3500. I am loosing while doing it. First week -4, 2nd week +1, this week -4. So -7 in 3 wks, works for me!

C25k is good, I've gone from zero to running 5k in less than 2 months with only running twice a week. I didn't follow the official program just added a little bit longer each time. The first time I thought I was going to die could only do 30 seconds! After a few weeks it's not too hard to add say2-5 mins each time it soon adds up :)

As others have said, it's about monitoring your calories. That said, running has definitely helped me lose weight and get in better shape. It's an all-over body workout and it's great to just get out and run outdoors (when you can). And it hardly takes any equipment - just you, some workout clothes and some really good shoes. :)
