HEY everybody!!! I need some tips for eating more during the day so that I won't feel SUPER hungry at night and snack! For example: today, I am SO full and have only eaten about 600 cals, but I burned about 900 cals at the gym. I hate a really healthy lunch with tilapia, brown rice, and a garden salad and snacked on pistachios and trail mix. I haven't had dinner yet, and I know that i am going to be super hungry late tonight if I don't start doing something differently. Does anybody have any suggestions?

what exactly are you asking? it's ok to eat a snack at night as long as it's not junk and you stay in your calorie range. And why do you think you will be hungry tonight if you haven't even eaten dinner yet?

I find since I work 2pm-10pmish and I ALWAYS wanna eat more before bed, I eat a smaller breakfast and lunch, and save 400-500 calories so when I get home from work I can eat more.

The problem with snacking at night isnt' the time..it's that youv'e eaten everything you should in the day (calorie-wise) then you're eating more.

    Just plan for it.

You only ate 600 cals and burned off 900 at the gym.. so you have another 1500 cals left to eat.
I'd say have an awesome dinner and then a little snack before bed.
You can still stay under your calories AND get a nice little snack before bed. If it's a habit for you (like it is for me), it's better to have a small healthy one than to try to fight it.

I try to eat more protein at dinner and have hot tea at night, it helps.:flowerforyou:

The normal tips for "eat protein and a lot of fiber filled foods and you won't be hungry!" don't work for me, but I save calories for snacking later, especially if it will be a long study night and I'll get a sugar craving. Budget some calories for the evening, when I didn't do that, I got so crabby and hungry during the night and would end up binging ("well, I'm already over, so it doesn't matter!").

Don't completely deprive yourself of your favorite foods either, the mental boost will help and you can start slowly cutting down portion sizes of those foods later.

I struggle with this, too. Although it's hard, the best thing to do is to get away from the food and/or go to sleep. I used to not go to bed without having something because I didn't want to be lying there all night hungry. But I found out after actually forcing myself to try it, that I slept just fine, and better.

I snack almost every night. I eat skinny cows and fat free milk about an hour or so before bed.

As long as you still have calories left for that day you should be OK.

I save my calories because I'm more hungry at night. I just make sure I eat nutritional food that is within my calorie guideline. It seems to be working! Good luck!
  • Snacking at night isnt the real issue. its what you are snacking on. Try healthy snacks like fresh fruits or vegetables with a light dressing. Make sure you have enough calories left in the day to be able to eat the snacks. Its also helpful to plan out those snack and have foods already prepared. I keep cut up veges or fruit right in the fridge for myself or a yogurt. Hope this helps.

Divide your calories into 5 small meals, about 3 hours apart. Mine are 8 am, 11, 2, 5 and 8. Eat lean protein and complex carbs at each meal. They keep you satisfied. I actually save about 250 calories some nights and have 1/2 cup of Denali Extreme Moose Tracks ice cream. Hasn't slowed down my weight loss, and I'm satisfied both physically and emotionally.
