what motivates you

Really need someone to chat to for help and advice and to motivate me along the way. I really struggle with my weight and don't have any support at home. Struggle with my confidence but hope 2012 is my year to loose the weight I will do my best to offer and advice and support back if anyone can help.

The motivation I have goes beyond just loosing weight...It's about feeling good. I have been working out for a little over 3 weeks and feel really good about (physically good). I think about how I felt when I wasn't doing anything, and this is motivating because I felt like crap.
  • I think my biggest motivator is the mirror. I look at myself in the mirror for a good few minutes every day now and think about the changes I want to make. This is a big deal for me because for a long time, I was avoiding mirrors and I avoided taking pictures because I didn't want to see myself. And that's what got me here! By not looking at myself, I allowed myself to gain weight because, technically, I couldn't see it happening if I wasn't looking. But now I see what I did to myself. And thoughout my MFP process, I can see postive changes taking place! Even if the scale isn't moving, I can look in the mirror and see the difference that I'm making.

I'm just tired of feeling bad about myself. Since I started exercising and eating properly I feel so much better about myself and I'm seeing results for the hard work. I feel good that I've accomplished this much and I want to continue on with this. I remember liking how I looked and feeling confident when I was 30 pounds lighter and fitter and I want that feeling back.

It's hard to get into the swing of exercising. But what motivates me is the way I feel after I workout. I feel strong and successful. I feel confident and less stressed. I love feeling good and exercising really puts me in the "feel good" swing of things.
  • I struggle every day just to think about what to eat, how to organise my groceries so that I have low cal foods around etc. And the whole exercise thing is just another struggle. I really have to spend 10 minutes talking myself into doing something. I know this will get easier so I just keep taking baby steps. But even if it is hard to get going and I struggle like mad, I would rather be struggling and achieving than not trying and just feeling worse. HTH

here are a few tips that I found to work for me:
    1. Make MFP your home page
    2. Log in EVERYDAY, read the message boards, post.. Keep your mind actively thinking about it.
    3. Don't try to change too much at once, Implement 1 change every week or so. Little tweeks over time seem to work best or at least better than butt load of change all at once
    4. Always be honest. We al fall on our way to the top, be honest, no one is judging you here... we all support eachother
    5. Keep trying new things until you find what works for you (It took me a while to find my plan and it works great for me but I wouldn't push it on anyone else)
    6. Its easier to lift weights than the burdens of carrying weight.
    7. take it one day at a time.
    8. Have a cheat day or meal, where you eat what you want
    9. Try to talk to yourself as if you are talking to your child or loved one. Often times the thing we need most is to be a better friend to ourselves.
    10. Smile.
  • What motivates me are my kids!!! I want to live a long time for them. Also the days that I don't feel like working out, like today, I just have to tell myself how much better I will fell if I just get off my bum and workout!! I feel so much better and have tons and tons of energy!!
  • Read over the Success Stories board, i've found it to be fab motivation. I'm on day 5, I know that's early days, but I actually feel like I know this time i'm gonna do it....it's like something's just clicked

I have been exerciseing and eating healthy for 3 weeks now and my motivation is how I feel physically. I have more energy and stamina. I keep pushing myself to do more or go further, even though I don't feel like it all the time and I surprise myself. We can do more than we think we can.
