Can an Adult Order From the Kid's Menu?

I'm going to Vegas next Monday for almost a week and I don't want to ruin all my efforts from this month. If anything, I'd like to continue losing while I'm there. Most restaurants give giant portions and I don't want that much food. I was wondering if restaurants allow you to order from the Kid's menu? I know we'll be hitting a few buffets so at least I can control my portions in that atmosphere so I'm wondering more about restaurants.

Of course you can! Or normally you can ask for a smaller portion of a main meal! :-)

Thanks, out of curiosity would they charge you the same if you asked for a smaller portion?

    Thanks

I would ask the server when you go there. Some places allow it and others do not. Also remember that you can ask to split a meal if you are dining with someone. If the portions are large, order one entree and ask for a second plate. I know my sister does this alot when she goes out to eat with her husband. Have fun in Vegas!!

I've had a few places that do not allow an adult to order from the kids menu, when that is the case I usually ask them to put half the meal in a to-go box and serve the other half.. or do it myself immediately when i get my food so I am not tempted to eat more than I need.

While in law school, I used to order the Moo Moo Mr. Cow from Moe's all the time, never had a problem (except from my classmates!)

Most places do charge you less for a smaller portion. But I do agree with others here, some restaurants will not allow it. I always explain the fact that I am watching what food I eat and would like a smaller portion and most places are very accommodating. x

Its according to the restaurant and or server. I have seen servers ask a child their exact birth date in order to see if they child really was under 12.

Those buffets in Vegas are nasty. There are so many wonderful places to eat there. Enjoy!
  • I've been to Vegas several times. There are tons of healthy choices available and restaurants know full well that many people there are trying to stick to a diet. Here are a few tips:

-- Stay the hell away from the buffets
-- If you can't order a kids' meal, then order a healthy adult meal, but don't finish all the food on your plate
    -- Use the hotel gym
-- Don't use the monorail or taxis unless you are going a very long distance. If something is a mile away and you don't have a time you need to be there, walk. There's a lot to see in that mile.
  • I have never known a place to allow for this to happen. They put age limits on the children's menu. ANd honestly, most children's menus aren't very healthy (think hot dogs, chicken fingers, etc).

Not every restaurant allows this, and my only guess as to why is the kids menu is usually drastically cheaper than the normal menu.
  • I would order your entree, but ask if you can have it appetiser size instead...I have found over the years that most places will do that for you..The problem with kids menu's is that the food tends to be less healthy and is aimed more at parents being able to make sure that kids eat rather than pull a face

    Lou :-)
  • Some places will allow it but some places have an age limit. Typically it is stated right on the menu. But you could always order a regular entree and ask for a "to go" box. When your meal comes, save the portion you want to eat and put the rest in the to go box.

    Have fun in Vegas!!!!

^^THIS, and honestly, people bring kids to Vegas more these days, but its still not a child-friendly destination in general (considering strangers hand you porn every time you walk down the street). I'd wonder how many places even have significant kid menus.....

Most of them, yeah. But the brunch buffet at the bellagio is outstanding.

I've never seen a restaurant allow an adult to order from the kids' menu. You might be able to convince them to let you by from the seniors' menu, but I doubt it. Ask about half-size orders, or get a to-go box, or just order something to share.

hehe, one day I want to go somewhere and buy an ordinary deck of cards, buy one of those green shirts that the porn pushers wear, go on the street and start passing them out. I bet the look on many people's faces as they realize that what they were handed is a mere two of clubs will be priceless.

I worked at Olive Garden for several years and we were not supposed to allow adults to order from the kid's menu. I bent the rules a few times on that, but it's basically standard procedure NOT to serve those meals to adults.

A lot of restaurants have lunch portions available at dinner time. It also doesn't hurt to ask if you can order from the kid's menu, but be prepared to be told no more often than not.

Some restaurants have a lunch portion and a dinner portion, I walways ask for the lunch portion, which is always smaller....drink lots and lots of water...soooo much salt in all that buffet food.

    That sounds awesome!

Thanks for all the replies. I do plan on working out in the gym while I'm there so I guess I'll just roll with the punches regarding the food and try to get smaller portions where ever I can.
