since my first 5k ive now done it 4 times on the treadmill, did try yesterday to run outside but failed, probably as i was trying to keep up with my daughter lol0 -
FYI - for those of you wanting the app. You need to have smart phone. Go the the "Market", click on "search", type in "couch to 5k", then download. Its a really cool app.
Good luck!
you dont need a smart phone most phones will play mp3 and you can download a good free app from "NHS c25k"
lots of info here http://www.myfitnesspal.com/forums/show/47-couch-to-5k-running-program-c25k-0 -
Do you have to run outside or can you do it on a treadmill? Does it tell you what pace to run at on the treadmill ?0
-
Yes, you should totally do it. It is downright amazing how at the beginning, even the one-minute runs seemed virtually impossible, but by the end, I could run!! Now, about 3 months after finishing C25k, I am still running 3 days a week. Yesterday I did 4.5 miles. I had an app on my phone and the voice would tell you when to walk and run, it kept it very simple!
Completely agree. It is great! I finished Thanksgiving week and have continued to run as well. The progress you make is unreal. Never thought I would be able to run for 30 minutes but now I can.
Totally agree--it is downright amazing. I am a person that needs structure and instruction for things like this, so c25k worked great for me. I am SO not a runner--never have been, but I can complete a 5k!! Who knew?!?!0 -
Hi i am doing this program, i can tell you if u never ran before week1 one coul be a challenge, but it's not really that bad, i am on week 3 day1. and i am looking forward to runing now however i am a little nervous about week 5 when the runs get a little longer and at the same times i can't wait to see THAT I CAN DO THIS!! it becomes fun as you go!0

I did c25k in April-June 2011 - I think it's a fantastic program. It feels near impossible each time you move up, but once you run that 90 seconds, 3 minutes, 5 minutes...it makes you feel amazing! I lead a group doing c25k in Sept-October and it was so much fun to watch them improve and tackle it each week. I myself am scheduled for a 9.5 mile this weekend - so yes, it works and you can use bridge to 10k after that to continue on up or even just switch to the Jeff Galloway programs, which is what I'm using to get up to a half marathon.0

I finished it at the beginning of October and found that it really works. I can now run 8km. I would have never thought this possible last year in August when I started since I hated running. I can´t say that I love the running yet, but I can do it without sucking air after 5 minutes. I would also recommend a podcast to help make it easier with the music as well as the signals when to run and walk. I used Chubby Jones. It is free and has some good tunes for running.
Good luck and have some fun!0 -

I am currently on Week 3 Day 1 on the C25K program. Here is a link that makes life better on the treadmill doing this program:
http://www.c25k.com/c25k_treadmill.html
It breaks it down in "times" and that's what really sticks in my mind when I need to push myself!
I'm not in a rush to complete the program, so if I feel that I need to repeat a day or a week, I will.0 -

Oh, and as far as what pace to run at....personally I run at what is comfortable for me....I can worry about speed once I am able complete the entire program.0 -
I did it 2 summers ago and LOVED it. Never ran before in my life. I felt a huge sense of accomplishment and was very proud of myself. And I found out I love to run. If you're really struggling you can always repeat a week until you're ready to move on.0

This is an amazing program. It will be 3 years in April that my friend and I started it and I have ran quite a few 5k's, 10k's and I am running my 3rd half marathon in May. I am also gearing towards running a full marathon in October. This is a great program. I say anyone that says they can't run I don't believe. I ran a little in middle school and that was it (many years ago). I always wanted to run but never made the time. I can't say enough about this program. WONDERFUL PROGRAM. Can't wait to see your progress!! GOOD LUCK!!!0

Btw, running outside is way more fun than running on a treadmill, IMO. I bought myself an elipse machine to use on the days it was too cold to run and it was sooooo boring. I'd rather bundle up and brave the cold. But I did C25K with a long distance friend and she only used the treadmill and did just fine on the program.0

I'm on week 3 day 1 and I think it's awesome! I use the "ease into 5k" app for android and it's perfect because you can listen to Pandora or your own playlist and just hear a voic that tells you when it's time to switch between running and walking. Feel free to add me as a friend...I'm new to this site so on the lookout for new friends...the more support we can give each other the better! Good luck0

I'm hoping to do a 5K with my daughter in May so I gotta get ready for it.
I think I will start the c25k today instead of the elliptical and see how it goes.0 -
Just so everyone knows, they've changed the app on iTunes. The creators have changed the name to Ease into 5K, formually C25K. They did an update around the first of Jan. It changed the run times slightly and actually made it more "do-able" If you are already in the middle of the old program you can finish, at least that is how it was a few weeks ago.
I love it! I'm not rushing to finish and will repeat a week if I need to. Happy running!0 -
I've always wanted to run a marathon. Is there other programs after couch to 5k that could help me continue training for a marathon? I'm hoping by next April I'll be ready to run the Boston Marathon.0

I am starting week 4 today! I have never ran a mile without stopping, and today I will run 6 minutes without stopping. I am so excited to finish this program. I don't love to run yet, but I love seeing my progress. I use the iPhone app w/ gps and it's great.0

I'm on week 3 and I also don't love running yet but I'm hoping to get there. I downloaded the app to my Kindle and just look up the program each week and do it that way. I'm looking forward to doing a 5K in March!0
-
Sounds like a good program but I loathe running. Do they have a program for fitness walking?0
-
I plan on starting this in the Spring, way too cold for me outside to do it now.. Right now I am doing the 30ds then probably do the ripped in 30, get done just in time to do the couch to 5k.. cant wait.. love how i am doing all this before bikini season.. .. Good Luck!!0
-
I do it but I've only completed week 1. It's hard but I've heard great things and it's doable!. Every time I do it I think I'm not going to be able to get through it but I do.0
-
I did the first day today, but don't tell my wife. We're "starting" it together tomorrow.0
-
I just completed week 4 Day 1 tonight. I absolutely love the program and the results I'm feeling are great!0
-
I'm using an app called Couch to 5k. My first week was 60 seconds run and 90 walk but my sister has one called Ease into 5k that the first week was 30 sec run, 45 walk, 45 sec run, 60 walk, 60 run and 90 walk repeat 3 times.
I am on Week 3 Day 3 and I love it.0 -
I started doing C25K in November of 2011 probably. I didn't finish but i did about 3 weeks before my treadmill broke. I think it gives you a really good base, its the perfect plan for someone who has literally never run. I say it gives you a good base because after almost 2 months of no running I was in shape enough to go out and run almost 6k this month (no stopping). I think the plan is really great. In three weeks I had gone from only being able to run like 2 mins on 4 to being able to do 10mins running on 4.5 or something and now Im running 5k in about 35 minutes. I really recommend it - a lot of my mfp friends have seen good results.0
