Silly question - What does "shred" mean on MFP?

Probably a quick to answer question, just curious as I haven't heard this used elsewhere. Thanks, everyone!

    I think it's shorthand for shred your muscles, what happens when you do strength training :-)

  • ...although, now that I think about it, the idea of "shredding" my muscles doesn't sound very pleasant!

    Nah, don't be put off. In order to build muscle, you have to put it under stress, when this happens, the muscle fibres get torn all over, in a good way (they are small rips, big ones would be problematic). As the muscle heals, it grows, thus giving you bigger muscles and more strength.

    Either Jillian Michael's Shred DVD, shredding fat in general or to reveal muscles you have worked on underneath, also known as cutting, then again I'm not entirely sure, different people may be referring to different things :).
