P.S. that Title was supposed to say in a Healthy Range

Hello All,

So Due to the PCOS/Insulin Resistance I have, I have tried to cut my carbs to aid in weight loss (since the way my body processes starchy carbs in particular is warped) from my recommended 206 g a day to staying between 80-100g. I know someone else who said that I could go even lower to abt 45-50g per day. Keeping in mind that I work out 3-5 days a week pretty vigorously, what would you all consider to be a healthy low carb range that would still be beneficial to weight loss efforts?

Thanks

I had 20 grams of carbs today and I ate a Lot of food.

I keep my carbs at 50 or under and I eat a lot of food every day.

I would suggest eating only 1 starchy type food per day or just a few times a week. Starchy foods such as bread, rice, cereal, potatoes, peas, etc)

That is what my Doctor suggested to me also and a Registered Dietician that specializes in metabolic and endocrine disorders.

Eat plentiful fats and proteins and fill up on fresh or frozen vegetables and fruit. There is room for nuts and seeds.

Keep the starchier foods at a Minimum.

And if you can cut out sugar and artificial sweeteners. They affect the majority of women with PCOS and insulin resistance in a negative way.

Is your diary open? I would love to see what you eat? I'm eating 1500 cal a day btw.

Generally I think the 50-100g range is good for weight loss without taking away those unrefined carbs that can be really helpful, especially with as much as you exercise

In sugar intake, how do fresh fruits rank? I saw that a cup of grapes I had had 24 g of sugar and my daily recommendation from MFP is only 28...so what do I do? Fruits are the healthy snacks right? :-/

Did you know that carb restricting to that degree will affect brain function? that's ridiculously low. I would not recommend that low a carb intake to anyone, ever, especially if you work out as well. It's unhealthy. How do you manage to eat veg and fruit and stay under 20grams? they are loaded with carbs. Did I misread what you posted by chance. And please poster...do not follow a plan that low in carbs unless you've seen a dietician who seriously monitors you. This could be very dangerous.

Yes, my diary is open and I just posted a natural recipe for applesauce in the recipes section. Feel free to friend me for support.

I was a Type 2 diabetic, now reversed back down to Insulin Resistance. I also have PCOS. I have also gotten off antidepressents and other mood stablizers, Thyroid meds and cortisol meds for adrenal gland fatigue.

Day by day I am slowly but surely healing my body and the weightloss even though slow is a great added benefit.

Also, another FYI............most people that are Diabetic or Insulin Resistant are also deficient in Vitamin D and Vitamin B12. You might ask your Dr to run a vitamin deficiency panel to see where your levels are at.

Actually I am thinking way more clearly now that I don't live in a constant carby brain fog.

I mentioned I stay at 50 or under. Today was a 20 grams of carb day.

I eat mostly green leafy vegetables and very minimal fruit. Most green vegetables are low in carbs. Eating low carb is not dangerous in the least. Nothing I eat is processed and everything is cooked or prepared from home.

I mostly stick with berries or half an apple when I do eat fruit.

    I mostly eat vegetables.

My energy comes from fat and protein and I have so much energy that I am going to bed at 10 and waking up every morning without my alarm at 4am promptly.

I go ahead and get up and get a workout in and then walk my dogs and then shower, fix breakfast and go to work. I have class in the evenings and then go to bed after class as it is online.

I too am insulin resistant and lower carb works really well for me. I eat "Primal" if I had to give it a name. I try to keep my carbs under 50 for weight loss now, but when I reach my goal I can have up to 150 per day. I don't eat grains or sugar. I feel awesome eating whole natural foods. I try to stick with I can eat anything that used to be alive, but is now dead :) If it comes in a box or package it's probably not good for you.

I can't believe anyone can put down this type of diet. it just blows my mind.

check out my favorite website www.marksdailyapple.com Mark Sisson has an awesome article on the carbohydrate curve and how many carbs help you lose weight.

For right now, I eat a lot of the vegetables from the Atkins Phase 1 Vegetable list............There are more veggies on the list, but these are the ones I eat.

    bok choy,
    arugula,
    celery,
    chives,
    chicory greens,
    cucumber,
    endive,
    escarole,
    fennel,
    jicama,
    daikon and iceburg lettuce
    Mushrooms,
    parsley,
    peppers,
    radicchio,
    romaine lettuce
    radishes
    artichoke,
    asparagus,
    avocados,
    Brussels sprouts,
    cabbage,
    cauliflower,
    chard,
    collard greens
    eggplant.
    Kale,
    kohlrabi,
    leeks,
    okra,
    onion,
    pumpkin,
    peas,
    sauerkraut,
    spinach,
    squash,
    tomato,
    turnips,

The mushrooms I only eat 2 ways. That is making a pizza with portabella mushrooms as the crust and also stuffed portabella mushrooms I got from a Paleo blog.

Both of these are really YUM and I generally hate mushrooms.

My mom eats LCHF(Low Carb High Fat) and she feels fine, I dunno excactly how many carbs she eats, but she dosen't eat any root fruits, sugar, fruits or grains. And she tries to stay away from vegetables with lots of carbs. Like, I know she dosen't eat beans or corn.

And I've heard people say they eat no carbs at all, though I dunno if that's even possible, and they seemed fine.

I think you have to experiment yourself to find out how many carbs are best for you.

Here's a page about LCHF, i dunno about other places, but loads of people in sweden eat it and I haven't heard about any health problems.

Exactly. Most people think because your not eating bread on a daily basis that your going to be unhealthy.

I have found that in MOST people, they are actually healthier ditching the grains and legumes and occasionally eating root veggies.
