What it means depends on who you ask. There is no set definition for clean eating. For some it is whole, unprocessed foods or foods made with only natural ingredients, like the Clean Eating Diet made popular by Tosca Reno who basically says if you can't pronounce or don't know what the name of an ingredient is, you probably shouldn't be eating it. For others, no processing at all.
People who follow paleo don't include grains in "clean eating".
    A good article

If you look at an ingredients list and you cannot pronounce anything on it...dont eat it!

Clean eating is whole foods but try to not use the term all that much.

Rule of thumb, get in your macros any way you want!

This is the clean diet from the book Clean.
I'm trying to stay on it for the next 3 months.

I do eat peppers and tomatoes though since I don't have a problem with nightshades.

It seems to me that "clean" is a relative term. As in, eating "cleaner" than you were. Since there isn't a real meaning for clean eating, I tend to think of it as the next level, goal or hurdle to reach in my own diet. Provided, I do intend to go in that direction. Otherwise, and in general, the terminology just has some sort of moralistic connotation that doesn't sit well with me.

The meaning of a clean diet to me is getting rid of foods that are known to cause allergies, high blood sugar or have a lot of toxins in them..
