I feel that way all the time. I've had a distorted view of my body for as long as I cand remember. I'm working on it.0

Thanks all responding and puttin your true feelings out there. I have battled with weight loss for so long, now that I am showing good progress, its hard to "see" it in the mirror. I don't want this to be confused with that I'm not happy. I KNOW that changes are happening....annnnd it I convince myself and dig deep I can see it. But naturally, I don't see it. I see it with my strength in the gym....I can run longer, I'm more energized, I love the gym now, I can lift more weight.... I see it when I make a healthy decision with my food choices, and when I put on certain clothes....but....when I first look in the mirror, its tells me that I am the same ol' big girl that I was when I first started. Sad....BUT I AM GOING TO TRY AND CONDITION MY MIND...SO I CAN TRULY ENJOY MY WEIGHT LOSS AND WHAT'S TO COME!0

I'm not done my weight loss journey yet, so feeling really proud and satisfied with how I look yet still knowing I have more work to do is kind of hard to balance. I sometimes have bad days where I just think, Oh, my stomach is so huge, I just can't wait to tone it up, etc. And then I have other days where I can't stop looking in the mirror and feeling great about myself.
What has helped me adjust my mental image of myself was taking a ton of progress photos and looking at the 'before' ones fairly often. Another thing is spending a good deal more time looking in the mirror, trying to see what I really look like.0 -
Yes - I have lost 43 lbs before MFP and am hoping to loose the last while here. I went from a 14 to a 6 (hoping to end up a 4) and I still feel big. When I look in the mirror, all I see is rolls, I want to hide back in bigger clothes, etc. and I still don't enjoy shopping. I know it takes time for your head to adjust. I am hoping the last 12 lbs makes a difference but I also know I have to work on how I feel as well.0

Oh yes. I still see the fat girl in the mirror even though I know I look different after losing 45lbs! The pictures help too. Sometimes I am amazed that it's actually me in the pictures with no double chin or rolls!0
-
i feel great because people tell me i look it
that will do for me0 -
I have lost over 100 lbs and I still see fat girl some of the time. It is just our minds playing tricks on us. Yes the pictures will tell you the truth. Keep taking them, it is important to believe the accomplishments you have made.0

I am not stuck in my old fat person body.... I love who I am today, and I am super excited to see me in a few more months.
I still have a ways to go, but after 61 lbs the changes are SIGNIFICANT and people can see them.
I think once you sneak up to 50lbs lost you will start to really feel different (I know I did), but be proud of what you have done so far, its awesome!0 -
no. but then again i didn't have any negative feeling about my body before my weight loss started.
eta - i should say i am still very overweight. i have been very over weight since i was at least 15 years old. we shall see how i feel about it when i am down another 40 pounds LOL0 -
I have been down from 226 to 139 now for 2 yrs and yes I still have the mental part that still tells me "ugh FAT!" lol I feel more comfortable in clothing, but come summer time all the downsides to weightloss show, I think my self esteem will get better with the more toning I do, so its become my mission to have a healthy view of my body, and no matter what I may LOOK like I think if Im taking all the right steps, excersizing and eating the mental part will come along, good luck to ya hun!0

I've lost 52 lbs (I have 12 to go) and I still feel fat. I can see the difference in the number on my pants (went from a 12 to a 4), and I wear size XS/S shirts (used to wear M/L) but I still feel like certain parts of me are huge. I wish I could get out of this mindset, I don't know why I am stuck.0

110 ish soon and yeah I am still fat so I see myself as being fat... Less fat yes....But still fat....
My thing is too have smaller cloths in my closet and too try them on whenever I am feeling down and fat. I have a size 4x shirt in my closet as well to remind me the difference between that and a XL .... It helps big time.0 -
YEPPERS! I know I have lost a lot...but to me I am still the "fat" girl...until I look in the mirror then Im like OH YEAH *kitten* I AM GETTIN HOT! lmao0
-
I don't feel any different yet but ive still got a very long way to go & im hoping that will change as I get nearer to my goal0
-
i'm down 34 at it wasn't until recently that i've really felt different, its mostly in the way clothes fit now that i see it0
-
i lost over 40 pounds and still feel like the 167 pound girl i was0
-
Well, I actually still AM fat, so yes. I'm only 9 lbs out of the obese category.0
-
Yeap. I lost 35 lbs and still saw myself as chunky (even though I was wearing size 4's). I've regained 10 of those lbs back and I'm back to seeing myself as I did when I was heavier.. ugh.0
-
I lost 70lbs. and still saw myself as really big. I still have almost 80 lbs. to lose. But I didn't see it until I compared my before and current pics. Wow is there a difference. But I think I will still see myself as fat when I reach my goal.0

I think it is a pretty common thing for our brains to take a while to catch up with our bodies!
I, for one, still often feel like the 204 pound girl I was in August still even though I'm in the high 140's now. I always assume I need XL shirts, when mediums would be appropriate. I always try on jeans way too big. Before I step on the scale I automatically think "okay I'm guessing I'll be at....180something...when in reality it has been quite a while since I've seen a number starting in the 180s or whatever.
Sometimes I'll see a picture of myself now or catch a glimpse in a particularly forgiving mirror & be like oh what? My thighs aren't the size of the planet anymore? Sweet! Also I always get surprised when I can feel new bones that used to be covered in fat- I totally forgot that normal people have collar bones and hip bones lol. On the down side....the one thing I DO notice is that I have no boobs anymore.
Edited to ad: I have always had pretty low self esteem so it may have something to do with this?0 -

Yep...was at 40, 50, 60 and I will probably be that at 70, 80, 90, etc.
It's really hard to get into the mind set that I'm not 245 pounds and a size 24 but 179 pounds and a size 14...It's just hard to get there...0 -
This is the biggest problem that I struggle with. I can close my eyes and feel the difference in my body. I have lost 65 total pounds and look in the mirror and see the same body I had before. It is so frustrating! I stand in department stores and just want to cry because I don't know what to do. I love how my body feels and how the muscles feel under my skin, but I feel like I still look flabby and fat. It's such a head game. So to answer your question...I'm still struggling with this......
I believe in us though....we will soon see it!0 -
I struggle with the same problem. It is very frustrating and I think you are right it really does take a while for the mind to catch up and process the new body you have.0

For me it's definitely a hard thing to wrap my head around. Taking compliments isn't easy either. Sometimes I just don't know what to say when someone comments on my weight loss and how good I look, I'm not used to compliments. Hoping to move past this part of the weight loss soon.
Same here! when someone says "wow you look great" or "wow you have lost SO MUCH weight" it almost makes me sad because I am not sure how to respond. My weight is something I have struggled with my entire life and it is such an emotional topic for me to speak about. I hope that soon my mind will kind of catch up with this new body that I have work hard this past year to have.0
