I use frozen peach, strawb & banana (Dole) and blend in my bullet with a splash of pineapple coconut juice (Tetra Pack in ethnic aisle) and a tsp of ground flax powder, one ice cube.

No dairy, or sweetener. Taste awesome.

Sounds really good! Thank you! I am going to try using juice instead of yogurt or milk. I just don't like the tangy taste I get with the yogurt and milk together. Maybe if I just added milk instead of yogurt?

I usually do half a scoop of zero carb protein powder, a cup of my favorite naked juice (either orange or green machine), and blend with ice. It sounds boring, but it comes out really smooth and delicious. Not too bad in calories either. Only about 180 - 190 with protein powder.

If you don't like protein powder, you can also go to Coffee Bean and buy their No Sugar Added Vanilla Powder, and it'll do the same thing with less calories. So good (almost certainly better), and exactly what I think you're looking for. :)

Thank you! I think that sounds more like the consistency and the taste that I am looking for. I am going to try this! Thanks again!

I hate protein powders they all taste gross!
I use Greek yogurt for my protein.
    in a blender all...
    half a banana
1 to 1.5 cups of frozen strawberries
half a cup of Greek Yogurt (I use Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt) or about two large heaping spoon fulls
then about half a cup of either juice (any flavor you prefer) or 1% milk.
    Blend away.

My fave morning smoothie (especially in warm weather):

    1 cup frozen strawberries
    1 banana
    1 cup pineapple juice

Halve it if you're making it for one person.

Yeah I have the same problem with my smoothies. Can never get them to hit the spot, y'know?

But while at the 'Y' some time ago, this guy whipped me up a smoothie made with nutella, frozen strawberries and banana, skim milk (I'd substitute this for lower cal. soy or almond milk if I ever tried making it at home.. I'd also go easy on the nutella, but that's just me), agave nectar, and wheybolic vanilla protein powder... it was sweet.. really, really sweet. Of course it can be altered to your liking, but just though I'd share.

Oh wow....that sounds SO good!!! I am a chocolate phene and I LOVE Nutella!!! SO yummy! I can't wait to try this one. I think I am going to drink only shakes one day just to expirment with the new recipes!!! LOL! Thank you!

Banana should help with the tartness. Or tofu.

Banana would definitely help in making it less tart. I work at a smoothie place and it makes a huge difference in any recipe- but so does the juice/ milk that you use.

I made a couple smoothies for breakfast this morning with apple juice, frozen strawberries and vanilla ice milk (yogurt would work also) and of course ice.

I also started making this peanut butter/chocolate shake that i'm ADDICTED to. milk, tablespoon of peanut butter, sugar free chocolate pudding mix, some vanilla ice milk/fro yo/whatever and ice. Not all that "healthy," but not too high in calories, either. Tastes like a peanut butter cup.

You could also try one with passion fruit juice, mango and banana, or the same thing with strawberries instead of the banana.
  • Nutella is so yummy. IF you want that chocolatey flavor you can add cacao powder, I have a cacao powder that is 25 cals/2tbsp that is honestly too much chocolate, I have to cut it back to 1Tbsp, but so yummy with some cinnamon added.

I just recently discovered Jamba Juice smoothies they sell at the grocery store. OH MAN! I'm in love!

I'm sure it's something you can make on your own though as opposed to buying the package. The interesting thing is that it's mixed with a cup of apple juice. They are SINFUL! Rasberries, blueberries and strawberries with nonfat yogurt and apple juice. They have a mango and pineapple with nonfat yogurt and apple juice. I just bought a new one that's blueberry pomegranate.

I bought some fruits and froze them. I'm going to experiment with them....I'd prefer to make my own really!

It's getting to be kind of fun! LOL.
  • Cup of skim milk, scoop of chocolate protein powder and chocolate banana is pretty amazing. I can't offer any help in the tart section though , because that's really how I like my smoothies. I'd like to see other's recipes though.

I don't know if you would consider it tangy or not; but I love this one. The original recipe calls for greek yogurt, but I also use regular yogurt.

    6 oz greek yogurt
1/2 c pommegranite or blueberry juice
    1 c Frozen berries ( I like a mix of blueberries/blackberries/strawberries)

    Blend and enjoy.

Oops you can also add a little bit of 60% or higher dark caco bar and or almonds or pecans too. I use only a square or two of caco and maybe an ounce of almonds when I'm looking to use it as a meal and want a little more protein. Most days I don't add the caco or nuts.

I add a little stevia to my smoothies sometimes to make them more palatable - you might consider trying it :)

I posted one to my blog recently if you want to check it out! http://canuckasaurusrex.wordpress.com/

It reminds me of being a kid and having a jawbreaker... getting to the next flavour... then the next. Which is nice for me because large smoothies tend to bore me flavour-wise halfway through. This one is w/o dairy and it has an extra sweetness kick by using a very small amount of pure orange mango juice.

Super yummy and full of all sorts of good stuff!

The plain yogurt will give it that tang unless you sweeten it up a lot. I like to use honey greek yogurt if I'm using yogurt at all. Bananas and pitted dates are both good healthy ways to sweeten a smoothie without using sugar. Banana will also give it a creamier feel. I use a vanilla protein powder that's low carb and sweetened with Stevia. It tastes great and does a good job of taking the edge off a smoothie made with more tart ingredients. Tonight I had a smoothie with spinach (90 grams), blueberries (107 grams), strawberries (100 grams), Greek Gods honey yogurt (4 oz.), a scoop of protein powder and an ounce of lemon juice. It wasn't tart or overly sweet and was super refreshing after doing taekwondo.
  • Bump for later. Great looking recipes!

Thank you so much everyone!!! I now have a TON of recipes to test out and see what one works best for me. Yesterday I made a smoothie with frozen peaches and strawberries, about a half a cup of orange juice, 1 cup of water, a splash of fresh pineapple juice and 1 packet of Truvia and that was really yummy!

Thanks again for all of your smoothie recipes! It is MUCH appreciated!
