So, in 20 days you lost a few pounds out of a total of 200 you may need to lose, and in spite of your ill health, you feel great, so out with the prescribed medication.
After only 20 days?
You decided to become your own shrink?
NOT GOOD!
Mental illness doesn't just go away just because you drop a few pounds and feel good about it.
You are setting yourself up for a major fall.
I gotta say this one stung a little to wake up and read. How about this, Ive lived 26 years being Fat and trying to kill myself because everyone tells me to. for the first time in my entire life I LOVE myself. 20 days or not Reguardles, I feel AMAZING. If I dont have a lifestyle change I will die before im 40. GUARENTEED. Yes I talked to the doctor first ofcourse, I wouldnt just withdrawl from antidepressants. Any other time in life I have tried weight loss Iv'e given up after 5 days, Cant stand not drinking coke. I now have a slipped disk, a cracked rib, and havent had a coke in 20 days and you know what? as stated before. I feel AMAZING. I love and respect myself for what im doing and again, I have consulted a doctor on the antidepressants..0 -

- Worst case scenario ... he goes back on them because he feels like its coming back on. He has had a years of experience with things like this, I'm sure he can tell if he needs to take another later on.
I don't think its a big deal to stop anti depressants, in this case, getting off them slowly will help him become more independent. I think its cool that you feel like you can do that, the beginning of healing it the will to heal :}
There would be nothing wrong with taking them again if you need a slower get away but how are you going to get better without will and effort and the first steps :}0 -
Andy - you are a wonderful inspiring intelligent human being (I have read some other posts of yours) I don't know you, but I am really pleased that you are feeling so positive after such a long time of feeling so low - long may it continue to last - enjoy it - it's your life - it's your turn.0

That is so great to hear. Its amazing how much can be cured by leading a healthy lifestyle. Medication be damned!0

Good for you! It sounds like you are doing the right things! My prayers and encouragement go out to you! Can't wait to hear more about your success!!!
As for comments...I think everyone means well but when encouraging someone the sarcasm is best left out. Don't let it get to you. You will find good friends on here who will get to know you and encourage you!
Best of luck!

Hey andy - first up i want to say congradulations! You have made a huge change and you should be proud of yourself. Secondary i just want to suggest that you should inform your doctor of your medication change. I myself am on antidepressants as well as other medications. I know the intial momentum of wieghtloss can be wonderful but you could still find yourself suffering from the sudden withdrawl of your antideprssants. it may take weeks or two months to hit you but it still may. I would advise comming off them more slowly. i have done this myself after trying cold turkey time and time agian and i feel much better for it. You are so brave for sharing your story and i am so prould of you. Keep up the good work. BTW i had to buy special scales myself lol! Please add me as a friend and fan!0
-
really? we're going to predict someones failure? thats supportive, not. I agree, he should get some professional advice on kicking the meds cold turkey but that was harsh. I believe antidepressants are over prescribed anyway, he probably never "needed" them. I've been there, just correcting your eating habits can turn things around.
So, i say you go! but call your dr. first! Enjoy your new joy!0 -
Here's the dope...
Many people think they need professional help do to something and I am sure most do, however, I believe the strongest change in ones life is made by your own mind. Do you need a professional to tell you that eating over 4000 calories a day will make you fat? that eating vegitbles is healthy? That you need to exercise? No, you really don't, You know what's right from wrong and for those that have not been morbidly obese or struggled with the depression around it, The obsticle isn't physical, its mental, his actions are begining to show some kind of positive progress. Sometimes, people just start to change because they want to .. not because someone said they could.0 -
Sorry didn't see post above - glad your doctor is on board! well done! I have quit pepsi max for 25 days now and i feel great as well! We can do this. You are a valuable person and don't ever believe otherwise!!0

Thanks for this. It is completely mental, I dont need a professional to tell me im doing better, I KNOW im doing better.0 -
Congratulations Andy...it's so inspirational to read your story and hear about all of these positive changes!
I dont think anyone meant that you need to stay on medication...I think people just needed to hear that you talked with your doc and are managing your withdrawal since that process can have so many unpredictable effects on the mind and body and it would be terrible if that derailed your awesome momentum Since you have reassured your readers now there are no worries about it!0 -
Your story totally made me feel wonderful. It brought tears to my eyes. Great job. You should be so proud of yourself!!!!!

"Success is achieved by consistency of purpose."
Thank you, Far East Fortune Cookie Company.
Also, I read a book on running this week from the founder of the Running Room and here's a quote from him: "Nobody ever got hurt by running too slowly." I love this. It's not telling you to run. It means that you should do what you're comfortable with and at your own pace and when you challenge yourself, be ready for it and don't try to do too much too quickly. That's true of any life change you make.
You have just taken the first 20 steps in a journey, full of positive challenges, that will last the rest of your life, and only you can know what the proper pace is.
Cheers!

I'm glad to know you did go off of the medicine with your doctor on board, that is just so important and I wanted to stress to you that just in case you didn't. I truly wish you all the best things, and that your positive changes continue to improve your life and your health. I hope your body heals swiftly and well so that you can get back into this full force!0 -
*wave* to a fellow BC'er! Loved your post! I wish you all the best on your journey. You have a great attitude and spirit and I'm sure you'll do totally awesome!0

Andy, once again I think your are so inspiring. I agree that a healthy lifestyle change is more effective. You are doing fabulously well and deserve the complinments. You are seeing the benefits of your lifestyle change and sooo pleased you had a NSV with the jeans. The emergng theme over the past 20 days has been your determination, motivation and sharing the good and not so good aspects of this healthy lifestyle change. You burn it and take care. I must sleep of this flu but MFP is soo addictive.0

Thank you.0

This. As probably we've already seen that all the best doctors, specialists, nutritionists, shrinks etc etc are present here on this site. So happy and honored to be part of it.

Agreed!
Don't take this the wrong way guys but you are both doing the exact same thing you are criticising the OP for doing. You are no more qualified to tell him he is wrong anymore than he is to say he is right!
My advice would be for him to get a professional second opinion.

This is sooo .. true for every topic that is posted you must accept that its going to be a mix of some unicorns, rainbows, *kitten*-clowns and *kitten*, depending on your perspective. Its just the reality of sharing your thoughts with total strangers who know nothing about you, your personal struggles or your personality.0 -
Im very familliar with forum ettiquite. that is why some are saying I was brave to post this topic. I can take the heat from the so called "Assclowns" Dont worry about me. the positive deff outweighs the negative in this situation.
My plan is to re surface this post months from now and Prove him and everyone else that agrees wrong. 3 months from now I will be just as happy, Just as motivated. wouldnt Death motivate you? Im not asking for anyone who disagrees to sugarcoat anything, but to take into account that ive been living with mental illness for years, I know how to control my medication, i know not to just withdrawl, but to see a doctor first.. I should have explained that better in the original post. But to say Im setting myself up for a major fall is a bit harsh, and i didnt take kindly to it. Not a big deal though, brush it off and continue with life right?0
