How Do You Move Out Of State?

I wish people hired people who don't live close to the workplace. Everyone ALWAYS says you need a job in the new town before you can move, but if no employers hire out of town, HOW can you move?! So sick of being stuck here! Sorry for venting but my little family has been trying to get out of here actively for a year, and I've been trying to get out of this town since I moved here 6 years ago!

BTW, I'm in Australia. So the whole need a job for health insurance doesn't apply.

some jobs are always in need, like docs, tradesman etc, so if you or your partner fall into any of those then you should pick up work anywhere.

There are loads of jobs out there, sure you may not like it, but if it pays the bills, then do it.

I could easily get a job in fast food/supermarkets, but my partner REFUSES to have the kids in daycare or for him to take care of them until he is able to get a job. Unfortunately apprentice wages are not enough to support us, so he has no real qualifications. Just experience in a lot of different fields, so he needs entry level jobs. Such a frustrating situation!

Keep at it - I moved from Perth to Adelaide and back again, and each time I had a job before I moved,
I think it worked for me because the jobs were in related fields to my current job so they knew I had good experience for the position.
My husband's experience was different - he moved from Sydney to Perth with no job to go to. He signed up wit a couple of employment agencies and picked up work pretty soon. It wasn't what ge wanted long term, but it got him established and paid the bills until he found something better.

    Good luck!
  • I'm facing the same problem. I haven't actively looked for any jobs as I'm still in school, however I am trying to move out of California.

The best thing you can do is save up. Just save save save, cut back as much as you can, maybe try to get more hours where you currently work and live, or find another job at night delivering pizzas or something.

Or, one moves ahead of the other, or goes for two weeks to the new place and finds a job. Find a place to live, so you can use that address.

It's one of the harder things to do, but if you really want to do it you'll find a way. :) Best of luck.
  • Sounds like u got both hands tied behind ur back.

To some extent, until ur truly happy, life is a compromise.

It seems like u know what to do, tho its out of ur hands.
    Best of luck.

I got a job 1,400 miles away from my home. I know being from Australia moving from Washington State to Kansas might not mean alot but that is what I did. I looked in the local papers in the area I wanted to end up and applied on line for companies in that area. I got lucky and was called for an interview. Rather than make me fly to the interview, I had it on Skype and got the job. I had to load up the truck in two weeks and hit the road with 2 cats, a bird, and my daugther. It took us 4 days to get to my new town but I am glad I made the move.

Good Luck on your job search. Hope things work out for you.
