I am going to loose weight! <-- WRONG.
That SHOULD read: I am going to lose weight.
I know spelling can be tricky, so here's a link that illustrates commonly misspelled words. So if at first you didn't understand why "I am going to loose weight" is wrong, click the link and take 5 minutes to learn the proper spelling of commonly used English words.

loose, lose... who really cares? What matters is that we are all here to accomplish something - really gonna (wait gonna is not in the dictionary, oops) get on someone because they used the wrong word... *shaking my head*0

Maybe it has, but it still irritates me. So thanks for raising it again. :-)0

No child left behind. Oh crap, we left some in first grade.0

I find that people typically pick on others for spelling errors because they feel bad about themselves, and since we are here to SUPPORT each other ... this topic seems mean to me. Only my opinion.0

Too funny! It's too bad you can't force everyone to check this website out! LOL It gets so frustrating reading some posts because you read exactly what they write, and it makes no sense until you go through and correct everything!! LOL0

while i understand the sentiment, as grammar & spelling misuse make me crazy as well, this topic is the internet equivalent of wasting your breath.. there's truly no sense in making yet ANOTHER "loose" versus "lose" topic..
let's add this to the pile of dead horses we insist on beating over, and over, and over...0 -
Picking at other peoples spelling abilities is no different to other forms of discrimination in my eyes.
There could be a million and one reasons as to why that word has been spelled incorrectly.0 -

I agree. And I am SO OCD about spelling, but that is not the reason we are here. We all get the gist of the post. Enough of the Spelling Police... Jeeez! Too bad there wasn't as much support as there are nit-picky people. :ohwell:0 -
Ah, sarcasm in the morning. Love you people. :bigsmile:0

Amen! :happy:0 -
I didn't realize that we have the spelling police on this website. Who is anyone to judge, especially when you don't know people's curcumstances. We are here to help and encourage in their weight loss journey. If you don't like the way people spell, don't read it.0

IMO folks are here for support to get in shape and lose weight, not get schooled in spelling. And yes, it bugs me when words are spelled wrong but everyone had a weakness and some folks that weakness is spelling and I don't want those people to not post as often because they are worried about spelling.0

what happened to just being supportive and compasionate towards others? we're all here because we share a journey towards becoming healthier, not to win a spelling bee! If it bothers you that much then dont read the post, we face enough critisisms in this world without being so judgemental towards each other. Remember when you are pointing your finger at someone else there are 3 pointing right back at you, perhaps there is something in yourself you need to look at if something this small is getting you so irritated. :flowerforyou:0

When people say they want to" loose weight" I always imagine that they are refering to going number 2. It makes it much easier to deal with. Like exactly what kind of weight are they going to let loose?0
-
As many times as people have made this post, it never stops anyone from using the wrong "lose" when they post on the forums. I gave up caring about 1 week into my membership here...and I have a BA in English.0
-
Do you feel better now? You have fixed the internet. :flowerforyou:0

I'm more concerned about people trying to pluralise words by using apostrophes.0

amen. super annoying.0

Why is you trippin boo?0

It may be irritating, yes, but for some people, spelling is not there - scratch that - their thing!
I don't think it's right to harp on others for their spelling, even though it irks me as well! I admit that!
But so what if some people don't know when to use what word? All you can do is model and hope that it rubs off. Pointing it out and making someone feel unintelligent or belittled isn't the way to go about it. Not saying you're doing that OP, I'm just saying.0 -
Hahahaha!! THANK YOU!!! That's was totally awesome!! I am a grammar and spelling Nazi too, BUT in the misspellers defense, Swype and talk to text can really screw your words up. ) Bravo though, I like this.0
-
I agree with you 100%. Although, I do get irked when people don't know how to use English properly, but we will never win this battle.0
